I know this is difficult to answer but I was wondering if some of you would share what your IC pain is like. I am trying to decide if that is what I am experiencing or if my imagination has gotten the best of me. I have what I will call "zaps" of pain but don't know if it is IC related or not...it isn't constant....comes and goes. Is IC pain more constant or does it come and go like that??
Thanks again for your posts,
Dana

Hi: I was getting zaps of pain at one point as well. They weren't extremely painful, jut like a twich of pain, or pushing on a bruise...hard to describe. They subsided though.

My pain is 24/7 but is most severe when I've eaten something or drunken lots of water. It starts from above the pubic hairline to an inch below my belly button.
It feels like a bruise that's being squeezed and sometimes there is urethral burning and a stabbing feeling

My pain varies from burning to cramping in my bladder. Occassionally I get a very sharp stabbing pain in my left kidney while voiding that usually knocks me to the floor for quite some time.
I also have severe lower back pain.
However it is uncommon for me to have all of the above symptoms at the same time.

I don't have any cramping in my bladder, my pain is more in my uretha (spasms), back pain (can be lower or upper), left leg pain which is more on the outer thigh and is a aching/throbbing, left kidney pain, which is my worst pain these days, it is more of a aching/throbbing pain. I have that almost every afternoon/evening. Oh, and I get tailbone pain, especially if I'm struggling with IBS, which can be really bad if I don't keep on top of it. I also get tailbone pain if I sit, like in the car, for to long. When I first got sick I was dealing with vulvar pain, but that is now under control, thank god, because that was really horrible! Hope this helps.

I have pain most of the time but when it gets really bad it does exactly what you are describing. It's all IC.

Thanks so much for your replies...it is so hard to deal with the fact that we all have different symptoms even when it comes to the pain of IC....
I hope we all get feeling better soon.....

I have had IC since 28 years old and now I am 42.. I will tell you if you do not know this already it is one of the mot painful thing to have. When I was in my 20tys and 30thys I had it so often I did not know what to do with myself. Going down to Boston, Mass to the specialist so on. Then as I got even older the pain when flared is just as horrid but I seem to be able to go into remission for much longer periods of times. Sometimes over a year before a flair but before I had pain almost ever day of my life for years. This problem is sporadic for me anyway. Very spontaneous. When I get an attack it can last one hour to a month. It comes on like a full blown bladder infection. I have uncomfortable pain in the urethra to start, then it builds up into feeling like I WANT to pull my bladder out of my body, like I can actually feel it and when I walk it hurts. It has spasm. I actually feel it giggle sometimes and ouch is that terrible. Then the burning and feeling of having to go every second with a drop and then I feel it giggle again and the urethra has a pulsing pain that makes me feel shivers run down my entire body. The pulsing is very, very , painful. It is like I want to push this entire piece right out of my body. I wish you all the best of luck in dealing with this horrible problem and hope none of you ever feel this kind of intense pain.

my pain has really changed with time. i used to have alot of urgency and frequency...those were my main symptoms. I used to get alot of yeast infections and BV, but not anymore (thank God). Now I have bad pain though. it is all througout the pelvic area. I think it is from the bladder but it is radiating to the rest of the pelvic area. sometimes it feels like cramping period pain, sometimes it feels like there is a hole burnt in the bladder when I am flaring. when I am not flaring there is still pain but its more tolerable and I can function ok. I still get frequency soemtimes in a flare but its not nearly as bad as it was. I think its common for symptoms to vary in the same person.
