Hey wanted you guys to know I went for my follow up today with my uro after my hydro/cysto (my 2nd). She came in so excited, I had mentioned to her before about the cytotec and she said she would have to do some research. Well, she went to a conference a couple of weeks ago and guess what the new thing is to mix the elmiron, cytotec, lidocaine together and do self instills. I start with 4 times a day for a week and then taper it down to where I only one a day. She said there has been some real promising results and that they are now believing that if it will heal ulcers it will help heal the lining in the bladder.

Of course I will keep ya'll posted. But I just love this gal, she is so proactive. She said she almost yelled at the conference because I had brought it to her attention and she couldn't believe it that she heard it from a patient first. Anything I ask, she always does research and she is so open.

Ihurtoo, please give her a try. I believe you would absolutely love her and her nurse Gina. They treat you like family.

Wow, that's really cool! I'll have to see if my uro can set me up with home instills like that...I'll try anything...

Blessings,

Hmmm,

That seems odd that Cytotec would work as an instill. I thought it worked because it increases the mucous produced in the gut, bladder, etc. It works on contact, too? Does anyone know?

My doctor said that they believe that it will help with the Elmiron to restore the lining so the nerve endings are not exposed.

The bad news is that it has to be made at a compound pharmacy and they do not bill insurance directly and it is soooooooo expensive. But I talked with my insurance and they believe that I will get hopefully 50% reimbursed for it.

I will try anything to help. So our plan now is for me to do this for a week, then when needed and have the hydro's twice a year. I am having such success from my last one on bladder capacity. I sometimes go 3 hours, which is amazing. I usually go every 15 to 30 min.

The pharmacy will not have it ready for me until Friday afternoon. So I will keep everyone posted.

Thank you for posting this news, littlemyrn.

We even speculated here in the past on whether cytotec could end up in instillations. This would be an interesting options for those who couldn't tolerate the digestive side effects, or possibly even the uterine ones.
