I have been doing the rescue instills since Oct. of 05- they have helped a great deal until the last 2 weeks, I have been in one of the worst flares of my IC "career"-my urethra is so tender I can not get the cath in to do my instill and when i try to force it, the urethra seems to spasm even worse, has anyone else had this happen? if so what did you do to help, i am going in next Thursday for my 40th (approx.) dillatation and instillation by my doc.,hoping he will be able to get the cath in with me under a spinal block---boy how i hurt!!!! Please, anyone with any ideas, please respond

The first thing that crosses my mind is infection. I would call your Dr's office asap to let them know what is going on. another thing that crosses my mind is you may have gained a allergy to the cath. or maybe something in the installment mixer. Your Dr needs to know this so they can work with you to find out what is causing this problem and get it solved.
I understand how awful it is when you know that they have always helped before and now the swelling and burning started. when this happen it was because I was having a reacting to a new medicine they gave me in recovery when i went in for my leep and lap.
are you taking any new medicines or a new herb of any type? if you use lub. have you changed what you normal use? How about washing power/liquid have you changed your normal brand? There is many things that could had caused this reaction. My uro has said this so many times to me it has stuck in my head. With icers for some reason we can just pick up an allergy over night. I've always took things like advil, aleve, motrin, toral, but for some reason anything like that now causes this to happen it gets so bad i can't even pee. I remember sitting in a tub after the surgery crying my eyes out and the on call dr said well if the warm bath doesn't help the swelling for me to go to the E.R. well right after surgery that was the last place i wanted to be. lucky after sitting in the tub the swelling went down enough for me to get the cath in to drain my bladder, but it hurt like heck, but i had to get that urine out! we had a treatment ready to go in if it would. lucky it did, but the burning was still there for a while.
Please get in touch with your Dr. so they can help you figure this problem out.
sending you hugs and prayers
Rhonda
