Okay, I have had IC for over five years and was diagnosed in March of this year. I have always noticed pain this time of the month but latley it has gotten worse. For about a year it is unbeable to wear a tampon. It hurts inside and it makes me have to go to the bathroom even more than usual (I already go ALOT). I recently started Elavil which has been a miracle for me, but it has done nothing in this department. I also get bad pain in my urethra and have increased frequency even more than with my IC frequency. I get a stinging, twisting pain in my urethra at this time of the month. Does anyone else have this problem, especially the tampon issue? Thanks

I know next to nothing about this but my gyno. told me that extreme pain during your period could be endometriosis. Has anyone wanted to do a laproscopy on you?

In the first year that I began having IC and Vulvodynia symptoms, before diagnosis and meds, I would also have an increase in symptoms the week before my period and the week of. I don't know why, but that doesn't seem to be a factor anymore, even if I skip my meds. But I do usually still feel best the week after my period.
Elavil has also helped me, too!
I have found using the smallest most comfy tampon possible helps, playtex pearls, and changing it when necessary, only as frequently as recommended, because changing it TOO often can can lead to excessive dryness and nicks in the vagina, which I know from experience can lead to irritation, pain, yeast infection. I used to use the tampax with cardboard applicator, and have seen a lot of improvement since I switched to playtex pearls.
Someone recently suggested applying lube. I think that's a great idea...I'm planning on trying that next time.

I was diagnosed with IC about a year and a half ago. My doctor suggested taking birth control pills continuously for 3 months - so basically I only have a period now every season. My IC pain was horrible before and during my period. I would have horrible cramps and bad pain.. it would be so bad that I would get sick to my stomach. Anyways... Ever since my dr told me to skip my periods it has helped EXTREMELY! I had pain with Tampon use as well.
