I have been doing some research on the internet and several doctors believe that yeast causes IC? I know someone posted that their doctor also believed this. What do you think?

I think yeast can definitely aggravate IC - it always sent me into a flare when I had a vaginal yeast infection - but I don't believe it causes it. Definitely worth treating a yeast infection if you have one. :)

I don't really have a vaginal yeast infection. However, I was on antibiotics for three months because of a staph infection. I have been a sugar addict all of my life. It just seems logical, or maybe I just want a cure. This IC is very frustrating.

I think it may be one aspect of IC but I don't think it causes it...but I do think it can make symptoms a lot worse!!!! As time has gone on and I work on cleaning my body of yeast I notice symptoms that improve that also agrevate IC ....like gas going down, yeast can make things a lot worse for sure but I don't think it is the soul cause.

This IC is very frustrating.

It sure is. :( My brother had a systemic yeast infection when he was young - was out of school for over a year b/c of it - bad GI symptoms and headaches. He had to go on a massive no sugar at all diet and took Nystatin among other things. He did get better, but it was a long haul.

Are you on any treatments for IC right now or still kind of searching?

Major problems happening here: I've had my interstim implanted since April 11th...and have since develop 2 problems. Hemorroids and Yeast infection.........does the stimulator not effect either one of them....

every single flare that I thought was due to IC turned out be a terrible yeast infection. I swear it felt like that yeast went right up into the bladder and my urine and urine culture were negative for infection. I personally think yeast gets right into the bladder tissue and makes it suseptable to infections and cellular changes.
Dr. Wm. Crooks in his book Yeast Connection and Womens Health has a chapter on yeast and IC, very interesting.

I've been plagued with yeast infections since I was about 14. I tried going on sugar free diet a couple of years ago, but it was so hard to stick to it! I am thinking of trying it again because I've noticed everytime I eat something sweet, I immediately start to feel itchy down there. So there must be a strong connection between what I am eating and yeast flare-up. Has anyone been successful in giving up sugar?

Thanks!

Are you constipated? Constipation can cause hemorhoids and I suspect the insterstim could possibly cause that to some point. Not sure how the stimulator could effect yeast....most surgeries mean antibiotics at the time of surgery...that may have upped the likelihood of yeast infection.

Successful in giving up sugar..no not me lol....best of luck to you....I am only successful at lessoning it...and staying aware...:grouphug:

Hi im not sure if yeast is the sole cause of IC or not, but my IC started after 2 horrible yeast infections that were very difficut to get rid of. I kinda think it triggered my IC in the first place. since then (3yrs ago) i had yeast infectio anfter yeast infection and BV alot too. now i dont have as many infections but i still feel itch sometimes. i think the yeast is just in my skin and wont die. Im trying to eat less sugar too, but its soooo hard (total sugar addict ). I find that taking a probiotic, drinking lots of water helps

I don't doubt that...Just like bacterial infections can trigger IC I suspect yeast can...:grouphug: Definatly an aspect we should talk about! :grouphug:

I wonder if it is the surgery....if your too regular....having hemohoids maybe it is pfd issue?? Possibly worse because of surgery or the implant? I know surgery it is usually mandatory to have IV antibiotic if it is a serious one like an implant. I don't have any better guess....you may want to ask the interstim board.

Sunnidee, I don't know anything about it....you may want to start a new thread on the question. :grouphug:

My IC symptoms started after tons of antibiotics and one yeast infection that was VERY hard to get rid of.... after that it was alll downhill from there, then the dicomfort in my bladder started. I am convinced this is what started this off. I should have known better and took probiotics... but I never did, until after I realized that they made my bladder feel a whole lot better. Go figure huh.... SO then I went from there to the anti candida diet, abd took anti fungals which helpd initially, but I wanted to see more, especially a reduction in frequency because it was driving me INSANE. I have been a little lax with the anti candida diet and leaning more to the IC diet, but I think now I need to get back in to the no sugar thing :( to my dismay. Anyways, I started Elmiron and I feel liket is helping, but wonder if I start cutting out sugar again, if it will make even more of a difference... Anyone else have luck with this diet....
