Hi,
One of the things Lara was looking forward to was being able to eat anything she wanted. Her doctors promised her that she would be able to eat anything she wanted and she would not feel pain. Well, that has not been the case.
Tonight, she tried tomatoes, her favorite for the first time and had severe pain, where her bladder and urethra used to be. The pain is severe. She has also experienced pain with a lot of other foods as well. "You will be able to eat anything pain free" is just not happening for her. It has been one month and one week since her surgery.
I asked her about prelief and she told me she tried it before and it didn't work for her.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
Thank You,
Carlos

It's only been a little while since her surgery --- my suggestion would be to wait a while and then introduce new foods one at a time in small amounts. Hopefully some who have had this surgery will respond.

It could be something called Pouchitis. You may want to ask the doc over the phone if that is a possibility. Or the pain meds could be backing up the bowel even more and it could be GastroIntestinal Problems that a GI Doctor could investigate. I had severe bowel problems after I had my bladder removed and it made it hard to eat anything. But it didn't hurt my bladder. But The Bowel Pain could feel like bladder pain. I know to this day, when I have to have a bowel movement I get an urgency to pee feeling and then when I have the bowel movement it goes away. I also had my gall bladder removed and my bowel movements became steady and normal and I had no more abdominal pain.
I would go to see a GI doctor to see about the bowel troubles. Pain meds don't always help peple. They actually made me worse. And ask the doctor about pouchitis and how to take care of it. It's usually common with people who have pouches that hold bowel instead of urine.
We are all different. It may be too soon to introduce tomatoes at this stage.
She may have severe inflmation of the pouch and that is why she can't eat anything at this point. Take it easy and slow down and listen to the doctors.
The doctors hold the key and can do testing on her.
Try to talk to a GI doctor.
Try to take it easy and go by your own recovery, not what we all did.
We all heal different.
I am trying my best to help here but the doctors are the best choice here for this. They are the ones with the medical degree. If Dr. R does not answer you calls, be persisitent.....keep calling until you get your questions answered. This is your one and only body and it deserves the respect.

Again I think it is way too soon after surgery to expect so much. It took me a long to be able to eat many foods again that did not bother my stomach. There are some that still do, but because I love certain ones so much I just eat them anyway and suffer the consequences. She needs to go slow, introduce one new food at a time and give it at least 2 weeks before adding and trying a new one. Let her body get used to the new food and only take tiny amount in the beginning, then slowly increase the amount of the food. It may be that tomatoes will never be okay, but maybe certain forms of them will work. Lara needs to be all healed up from the surgery before she will see the true reaction to foods. Judith

Carlos...it took me 3 MONTHS to be able to eat anything other than jello, broth, ice cream., and even then I could only eat small amounts...I posted before that I lost 31 pounds... at 5 weeks into my recovery, just exactly where Lara is, I was in my local hospital for 9 more days because I couldn't eat... Give it time, it's too soon to expect anything else.......hang in there Lara!!!XOXOX
