Bed Wetting

I know this may sound a little personal..but I was wondering if anyone was a bedwetter when they were young.

The reason Im asking this is that bedwetting seems to be the only bladder symptom that I had prior to being diagnosed with IC.

I wet the bed until I was about 13. I ended up having to take a medicine to take care of it. Also, my brother was a bedwetter until about that same age, but he ended up having to have surgery to repair something. (I dont remember what).

I was a bedwetter until I was about 8 or so. I would dream I was going to the bathroom and then wake up when I felt the wetness. However, I had lots more symptoms than that before I was diagnosed, ie. bladder infections, yeast infections, kidney stones/infections, lower back/pelvic pain, constant need to pee, urgency, etc..... But it would be interesting to see how many IC'ers were bedwetters as children. Hmmmmm....

Kuntrygurl, I'm a lot like you! The only real urinary symptom I experienced in my childhood was bed-wetting. Well, apparently I was also difficult to potty-train, but I don't really remember that.
What I do remember is that I would occasionally wet the bed as a kid, right up until 2nd or 3rd grade. I was scared that it would happen when I went to summer camp, although now I can't actually remember if it ever did or not.

I think this is very interesting! Perhaps it could indicate neurogenic abnormalities inherit in the genitourinary systems of those predisposed to IC...?

Sorry, I never had any bladder problems what so ever before my IC started. I wasn't a bed wetter. I came down with IC after a bladder infection. I never had a history of bladder infections either, just one infection and then I had IC. I was using a diaphragm and spermicide before the infection and IC started, and have always wondered if there was some connection with those products and my IC.

I did not wet the bed as a kid, nor do I remember many "accidents" while awake, but I DO remember worrying about accidents happening while awake!! As a kid, maybe as long as I can remember, I had a small bladder capacity and had urinary urgency/frequency. I always seemed to make it to the toilet, but I believe these were the first indications of the IC I was diagnosed with at age 29....

I don't remember having many bedwetting accidents as a child, however I began having uti's at age 2 and when I voided would get severe pain in my left flank. The flank pain has come and gone intermittantly throughout my life as well as rounds of kidney and bladder infections. Today I have severe scarring on my left kidney from repeated infections. I recall always having a problem with urgency that has increased with age.
My doctor believes that that my IC symptoms began with the uti's in my early childhood.

No bed wetting here, just a history of kidney problems since early childhood.

I never had a problem with wetting the bed as a child and no other bladder problems at all besides a few easily resolved UTIs as an adult. I have an older sister who had bedwetting problems that lasted until her late teens. I developed IC. My sister does not have IC and has never had bladder problems as an adult, not even a single UTI.
