Can anyone tell me what they put in their salad in subsitution for vinegar. I was using balamic vinegar and olive oil, oregano, salt and pepper, garlic. I have not had a salad in over a month!

I go to Trader Joes and pick up their olive oil infused w/garlic, I use that w/some herbs. I add some garlic salt or reg. salt sometimes too. I just tried cottage cheese and added herbs in it and mixed it in my salad, it wasnt too bad, its funny I am nearing 36 and thats the first time I had cottage cheese lol!

This site has some WONDERFUL flavored oils (look under foods) & most are IC friendly...love them! That's what I would use...flavored oils and spices that I could tolerate. Yes, traderjoes and wholefoods does have some alternative dressings...just be careful of the ingredients.

Good luck.

I use olive oil and garlic salt. I never thought I would like just olive oil, but surprisingly it is great! Most of my salads I eat these days are organic baby romaine lettuce, pears, feta cheese, garlic salt and olive oil. Sometimes I add some chicken as well. It's good, try it you'll like it! HA! Remember the Mikey commercials? :)

A good cream based dressing is Marie's in the refridgerated section. I got the Marie's ranch dressing. I think I read somewhere on these boards that someone was able to eat it, so I gave it a try! It is a little pricey.

i like plain olive oil too, never thought i would either, but i like it way better then any other dressings.

Afer your bladder burns enough from eating the dressings....the olive oil becomes even tastier.

When my IC was at its worse I ate salads with no dressing. Then I started adding some olive oil (cold pressed, first pressing) and also some honey. Loved the honey.

Thanks so much ladies for the ideas. I am afraid right now to use salad dressing, so I guess I will try the flavored oil. With feta cheese and cucumbers, what about black olives? I think I will like it too.

By the way, the banana I had this morning (very small piece) didn't bother me at all.
thanks again!

I guess I will try it in a couple of months. I'm new to this diet.

I've really gotten used to salad w/o dressing...or I'll dab a bit of garlic salt or cottage cheese on it.

I've been meaning to create a pear salad dressing! LOL Guess I'll just blend them up and see how it goes! :)

I can eat black olives by the can! YUMMMMM!!! I forgot, sometimes I use the juice in the black olive can on my salads too, just been a while since I have opened one up!

Hey, KaraIsabel, you could be onto something with the pear salad dressing. It would be cool if we could have a contest! We could call it "The Best IC Salad Dressing" or something like that! It would be great if we were all closer so we could do some taste testing and give out ribbons!

I'm probably the one who posted about the Marie's Lite Creamy Ranch from the refrig in the produce section of Safeway. I dilute it with a little nonfat milk & take a Prelief with it. I only eat this when I'm feeling ok, if my bladder is irritated, I don't.

I also mix pear juice with a little olive or canola oil, a tiny sprinkle of basil & that's very good on spinach or baby greens.

(PS. Other versions of Marie's dressing are not good for me. Tried the poppyseed & was pretty uncomfortable afterwards....)

Here is my salad recipe that I call my "Ain't Missing Nothing Salad":

Organic Mixed Baby Greens
Crumbled Feta Cheese
Organic Sunflower Seeds
Chopped Pear
lots of Dill Weed
Basil leaves
Garlic Powder
Black Pepper
2 tsp. Olive Oil

Yummy, that sounds so good as well as pear juice recipe. I'll have to try that one, except I won't put any dill in it. I know I'm strange, but I have never liked the taste of it. Especially on fish! (Salmon)

I do OK with Hidden Valley Ranch. One of my big triggers is vinegar. HV has a very minute amount of vinegar. THe other bottled dressings have more. I also sometimes get ranch made fresh from a local restaurant. They sell it in pints. The only troublesome ingredient (for me) is mayo. Evidently, the vinegar in the mayo is dispersed enough that it doesn't bother me. I've not risked trying Italian dressings, yet! :)
