Hello all,
I have not been diagnosed with IC yet but I am getting my first cysto/hydro on May 5th. I have heard a lot of people say they were put to sleep to get it but I wonder if what my urologist will be doing will be OK too. She is going to put me under with IV sedation. I've had before for another unrelated surgery. It's kinda like a twilight thing. Well I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on that. Will it be ok, will I feel anything and will the results be as accurate as if it were general anesthesia?
Thanks,
Jen

I had mine under general anesthesia. Some have it with epidural. I haven't heard about having one with IV sedation. Will this be done in the hospital?

It will be done in a surgical unit specifically for urological procedures next door to my urologists office.

It's done under anesthesia because it's a painful process to distend the bladder. I'm sure some of the other ladies here will let you know if they have any knowledge about IV sedation.
I see you're new...welcome to ICN! Everyone is very helpful; you'll find a lot of support here.

Is she referring to versed? I have never had a hydro with it, but did have a colonoscopy and did fine with versed. For a hydrodistention, I almost always have a spinal --- my choice since I totally dislike general anesthesia.

I'm not sure which sedation agent they will be using with me. I had to look up what versed meant. I didn't even know there were different kinds of drugs to be used for IV sedation. I do know however, that its most commonly referred to as twilight which is the only thing I've ever heard it called. This stuff is making me scared. I'm so nervous that I'm experiencing even more flaring uggg!
I am also not a big fan of general anesthesia, I'd choose something else if at all possible. When you get your spinal, do they put up a sheet so you can't see what they're doing down there?

They would put up a sheet if I wanted it, but I prefer to know what's going on. I watch the inside of my bladder on a TV screen --- it's very interesting and I somehow feel detached from the picture since I can't feel anything. Plus they give me meds to relax before I am taken to the surgery suite for the procedure.

I am having twilight as well. is this the same as used with wisdom teeth surgery?? i know they used a needle injection for that.
the thing i fear the most......is the pain afterwards and not being able to pee.
