Has anyone tried the dreaded bowel cleanse? I have been advised by a good friend who has IC (and is practically in remission) that I should do a bowel cleanse. Dr. Richard Shultz has a 5 day detox program that is supposed to clean out the gut and begin an amazing healing process.

I have read that bowel cleansing (excuse the grossness of this subject) is the root of what we need to do to start getting healthy. From there we can do liver cleanse, kidney & bladder etc.

I am just concerned about the effect on the bladder with all the herbs prescribed. My friend did it and she is fine, but, as we all know we are all different.

Anybody with me on this or am I on my own? haha :loco:

I suggest you talk to your physician first.

What are the herbs? The cleanses I know of I can't do....I can't handle it 5 days because I know I would be crawling to the bathroom...or living there by the second....and assuming that the root of your IC is something that can be cleansed....IC friendly herbs that help fight those things may be an option to try first. :grouphug: Do talk with your doctor.

I will check out all the herbs first. I don't know about it or not. Everything seems to be getting out of hand with me right now. I don't feel great since i went on these antibiotics last week for a supposed bladder infection. I feel awful. My head hurts, my genital area feels inflamed and sore, my bladder is spasming, and I feel feverish. She put me on Macrobid. i can't tell if I have a bladder infection or what the heck is wrong with me I feel awful but, I know i am supposed to finish this medication.

I pretty much refuse to take antibiotics now because of how awful my reactions to them are when I am just trying to get rid of a uti :(

a UTI is just one possibility of something that could be cleansed. Garlic is one thing that could help cleans you of whatever...and is usually IC frinedly...I would have a list of other ideas if I could get onto this site from my own computer but today I only know what is in my head. (not as much lol) Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner...I have been struggling all day (or most of today) with my computer telling me that it cannot find the ICN. ((hugs))

prayer works...(computer problems went away and the only change made was a prayer)

ok the info I can give from my own computer:
• Garlic (anti fungal, antibacterial, antiviral,
• Marshmallow root (immune stimulant and particularly good for Infections)
• UvaUrsi (antibiotic, antiviral, antiseptic)
• Motherwort (antibiotic)
• Pipsissawa (urinary antiseptic, anti microbial)
• Probotics (good bacteria kill yeast)
• Fish oil (may lower blood pressure)

as always this is just a starting point so that you can look up weather it is safe for you.

Thanks Katrina:

I have heard from many sources that a thorough cleansing of the bowel helps elimnate the origin of many diseases. Many years ago when patients were hospitalized the first thing they did was an enema to cleanse the bowel and promote healing. Doctors have long since gotten away from it. I have heard many gross stories about things that have been trapped up inside of people and were flushed out, then healing took place. I do not think it is a bad idea to cleanse the bowel. However, like anything else, everything iI do must be centered around how my bladder will react. iI couldn't do a normal bowel cleanse. Many of the herbs they use, like ginger, may effect my bladder and make a big mess. (excuse the pun)

I will revisit the idea at a later date. I was curious if anyone had tried this or read about it. Right now I am trying to manage a huge flare combined with a UTI. I can't think of anything else but relief from this pain.

Glad your computer and prayers are both working for you today.
