My boyfriend and I tried to have sex again this afternoon. He's been with me for 2 1/2 years, so he knows that sometimes we have to take things really slow and he's so understanding about that.

But today, I could tell something was wrong right from the beginning. During foreplay my pelvic floor muscle started hurting REALLY bad, but i didn't say anything.

We started and after about 15 minutes I started getting this insane stabbing in my, I don't even KNOW where. We switched positions and it just didn't go away. I told him that he had to stop and when he went to go clean up i got the worst, mind-blowing pain in my lower pelvis. It only REALLY hurt for about 10 seconds, but it took me by such surprise, it didn't start small and get worse, it was just terrible from the first second. I probably sat crying for 5 minutes afterward... even though the pain was gone.

He came back and was trying to help me get comfortable when I got the same pain in my lower back, near my kidneys. Again, it only lasted 5 or 10 seconds but it was the worst pain I've ever had. I could barely breathe or think or anything. Again, I was bawling for ten minutes afterward. Not because it hurt, just because it terrified me.

He and i had laid there for probably 15 minutes, and I thought everything was alright again. I started talking to him, explaining what had happened, when I got this SAME pain in my tailbone area?!!!! Now, I don't know what's THERE, let alone what could HURT there. It was absolutely terrible. I didn't know how i should even lay down because I didn't want to put pressure on it but when I laid on my side, my pelvis started hurting more and more.

My pelvis hurt one more time, the exact same way. Immense pain for 5 seconds, crying, and then lying there. After that, I just fell asleep. I was so worn out and confused.

What could that BE and is it going to happen again? I'm terrified to get intimate again because that was probably the worst pain I've ever experience :headbang: What can I do to calm myself down beforehand?!

I wish I had some answers for you, PFD popped into my head (Pelvic Floor Dysfunction), but I'm not a doc! ;) I totally understand how something like that could definitely freak you out!!! If it were me, I would make a call to my doc, as it's a new symptom for you and that's always worth a chat with the M.D.!! :)

I wish I had more answers for you!!!!

Hugs!

Hi Ohno! Sex for me too has grown increasingly painful....ugh!!!! I developed (?) PFD after my IC dx. I think it may have something to do with the muscles being clenched (either consciously or subconsciously) due to all the pain and inflammation in the bladder. (Just my own personal theory, of course! :) )
The timing of your pain kind of sounds like spasms to me. I had something like that recently. I could actually feel the muscles contract involuntarily every few seconds or so. Drove me nuts!!! It was almost like labor, in fact very, very much so! I called my doc and they called in hyoscyamine, (that's generic for Levsin S/L), you put it under your tongue. For me it worked almost immediately, I could feel the spasms actually slow down, then stop. (It didn't help with the pain, but did stop the spasming.) I've heard others say though that it takes a few days to help, but everyone's different! I haven't been having sex much, but your question makes me think that maybe taking this will make it less painful for me...if the muscles are spasming less, it must hurt less, right? But then again, I kind of think (and this is why I haven't tried it yet), that I probably won't be able to orgasm either, if the muscles are all relaxed?? I just don't know!!! Sorry, I can't help you much, but I look forward to reading others' responses to this. I'm sure someone will be along that has some ideas....there's another thread on here somewhere too about sex tips... :hmm: , think I'll check that out too! Take Care!

I KNOW that feeling that INTENSITY of pain that is just downright frightening. Like Chrissy, it reminds me of late stage labor pains except for there is no little reprieves like there is in labor! It scares the crap out of me and I can't move or breathe!

It is hard to believe that we can experience pain to that magnititude and not die of shock from it! :(

Sometimes, that happens right after sex or even up to the next morning. What my doctor gave me was valium to take before sex, or any other anti-spasm med, or muscle relaxer might work, but most docs do valium 2mg 3x a day. Lately, I've only been taking them before sex because I went on pain management.

I also have that lower back pain/pressure and my gyno told me that is the PFD and my uterus is collapsed backwards/retroverted whatever the term is! OR if it was lower in your tailbone it could be your sciatic nerve? I've gotten random pain there before.....no rhyme or reason to that!

Jen's thread on sex is VERY helpful.......but sometimes these flares and spasms happen no matter what WE do to prevent them and that is so frustrating!!!!!! :headbang:

It sounds like your boyfriend is super sweet and supportive!!! Hang on to a man like that!

I hope you feel better soon! :kissing:

ONNA-
My pain with intercourse has increased to the point that my husband and I just stopped having it. It is a part of my life I REALLY miss though and I feel like he misses it too. We do have "other" types of sexual activity but it is mainly for his sake as I almost am to the point where he cannot touch me without it becoming painful.
My doctor has sent me to a physical therapist as I have pelvic floor dysfunction. I have only been to one session so far but I am really hopeful that she will be able to help me regain that portion of my life again.
DH and I did have intercourse this week as I was having a good day and took a zanaflex and a pain pill prior to our foreplay. I had read Jen's sticky that day and did use the heating pad before hand, that really did help. Also the ice pack afterward was a godsend. But the act in general has really created a big flare and my VV is out of control. It really seems that we cannot win no matter what we do, huh?
Good luck and don't give up.

I agree that it could very well be pelvic floor dysfuction (PFD) and I suggest you discuss this possibility with your doctor.
