Hi everyone,
After my recent Dr. visit a few weeks back I am still unsure of what road to take with my treatment?????
The device my Dr. is talking about is the BioControl miniatruo-I system & I was wondering if any of you have heard of this? I think it is similuar to the Interstim? only it is implanted in the stomach ( pelvic floor) area not the spine.
I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge or experince of this device?
The device & study are from Israle so I'm not sure what other countries they are holding the study in.
The one thing that I am interested in is the fact that this device is used for pain control as well, which I know the Interstim is not. So I am not sure how the two devices differ?
Anyone with any info on this I would love to hear from you.
Thanks Andrea ( andcohen) :grouphug:

Is this like a Spinal Cord Stimulator by chance? A pain doctor (and I"ll use that term very lightly mind you) I saw about 7 years ago told me "THIS will cure your pain..blah blah blah" and pushed so hard for me to have this done (its also made by Medtronics, makers of Interstim) that he caused a red flag to go up inside my head. Turns out - I ran away from this guy as far as I could (this is also the doctor after I said No thank you to the SCS that told me "then its all in your head and go get a job") Uhm...ok so if it was "all in my head" then WHY are you pressing me to get this Spinal Cord Stimulator put into my body eh Einstein??
Thats the only thing I can think of what you're talking about..its used for pain control supposedly but I dont know anyone that has had one on here...
Anyone else??

Thanks Bella Tutu for taking the time to respond, obviously due to the lack if responses no one has had this or heard of it?? :hmm:
No Bella it is not a spinal cord device, it is simular to a pace maker thingy that is implanted into the stomach ( pelvic) area.
QUOTE " The BioControl miniature systems consists of an electrostimluator & stilmuation ead which are both implanted under the skin. The stimulator delivers mild electrical pulses via the stimulation lead to the pelvic floor.
The eletric pulses induces relaxing effects on the bladder wall with the intent to obtain control of you symptoms."
They are looking for a total of 15 people in Australia to take part in this study & with the couple of things / study results I have found it looks to be quiet promising
I am sorry if I sounded grumpy or rude I am just so scared, which soulds silly as for 17 years all I wanted was for someone to do something for me & now I have the chance I am sort of frezzing up & not knowing what to do between this & the Botox. Although I am almost 100% that the device will be the way I go. I think my biggest problem is the I am too scared to let myself get excited about this because I have half convinced myself it wont work for me  nothing else has!!!!
So please just some encouraging words or advice at the moment would be
really appreciated. I go to see my DR. here in a few hours whom I will talk this over with & he will the disscuss with DR. from Melbourne. Wish me luck.
Andrea ( Andcohen) :)
P.S Bella I forgot to mention that my Dr. has given me other options to look at before I make my choice. And this is supossed to help with pain / urge & freq. The trial results I have looked at look promising.

Cohen,
That sounds like Interstim then - if its for urgency and frequency, but its not for pain (Interstim). Is this device new to the market or is it something thats been out for a while? Is it only available where you are or is it in the US too? I've never heard of it....
I do hope you research everything and get referrals of patients that have had this procedure done so you can talk to them about their experiences, good and bad. Its so very important to talk to those that have had this done so you can know from experience vs. just what a doctor says.
Lots of prayers to you - keep us posted ok?

if by chance we are talking about the bion it is a very tiny device, the size of a match stick that is inserted into the preanal area. there are no wires involved. you would have to sit on a recharger pad 10 to 30 mins everyday. it is not for pain, and it is used only for frequency and urgency like the interstim.

Thanks Bella & Tiger,
Good to hear from you Tiger No this is not the Bion or quiet the same as the Interstim it is Called " The BioControl Miniature System" Yes I think it is relatively new & originated from Israle. I'm not sure how long ago or where else they are testing the device at this stage.
I better make this short as I am pretty spaced out on meds at the moment, had a few yuk day's ( sooooo sick of this, I have no life :cussing: )
Talk soon,
Andrea

I've heard of this...but I have the bion, myself, not this system, so I'm not much help.
But one thing I'm thinking of is that every single neurostimulator has turned out to help with urgency/frequency but all of them do not consistently help with pain, not at all.
So I would be very wary of any device that would claim to eliminate IC pain.
What I mean by that is, I would expect it to work for urgency/frequency but I would not hold my breath expecting it to work for pain.
Blessings,
Lori

Andrea, sorry you are feeling so bad, I know I have days when I'm not sure whts worse the pain or the way the pain meds make me feel.
My advice . since I am not familair with this paticular SNS is to be very sure about it, you seem to have alot of questions that need to be answered, and a good doctor should be able to give you them, if you don't feel you have enough info to feel good about the stim then maybe you need some more research before going ahead with it.
Surgery is surgery and not to be taken lightly, so please be careful. I agree with ICLori 100% you should not plan that your IC pain will be gone, it just sets you up for a huge heartbreak if it doesnt turn out that way. And if you do get relief then you will be happily excited.
Please keep us informed about what you do and how you are doing. It is so intresting to hear of other treaments being tried in other countries, who knows where our cure will come from?
Wishing you the best
Sonja

Hi Andrea
I know what you mean by the Miniaturo-I - they are doing a trial of it at my local hospital and the research nurse thinks the results look promising, with a reduction of pain (can't remember what she said about frequency). I believe it is being marketed in some places, but not sure where - not in the UK yet, anyway.
It works more or less in the same way as a TENS only on the inside and with a battery operated device to control it.
Love Angie
