does anyone have the height of their urinary retention the first pee of the morning? if so, how do you handle it? and does anyone know why it happens that way?

my theory (and please tell me yours) is that since i am unconscious, the result of being tired (and valium, nortriptyline, neurontin in the p.m.) that i am so knocked out, i tense while i sleep. in the daytime, i try to remain conscious of when i am tensing, and to the best of my ability, i relax the pelvic floor muscles.

if i'm knocked out, what am i supposed to do about it? it's not good. i never push in the a.m., but it is a ten minute process letting it out drip by drip....not exactly painful, just pressure and uncomfortable and annoying.

thanks. vivig14

It may be that if you drink a glass of water when you get up and wait a few minutes before you urinate, it might go a little easier. If you can't tolerate drinking cold water that early, you could try it warm.
