I have an awful sore throat. Have tried throat sprays, throat lozengers, cough drops, asprins, gargling with mouth wash (ever swallow any?? blaaaaaah). I get a lot of these and it is really sore. At times I get to feeling sick like. Anyone have any ideas? :help:

I remember when we were kids that my mom used to have us gargle with salt water. I haven't had a sore throat since I got IC (Thank God!) so I'm not sure what would be IC safe. I'm sure someone else has. Hope you feel better soon! :)

Gargle (do not swallow) hydrogen peroxide. Hot water (or tea if you can handle it) with lots of honey. I hope you feel better soon.

I agree with Big Fig. Gargle with salt water. Even doctors nowadays tell you to do that. It still works!

Gargle with warm salt water is what I do with a sore throat.
Also, I take really hot shower & drink hot water with honey, then get under electric blanket, & go to bed early. I've shaken off more than a few colds this way. (And I'm around LOTS of colds as a teacher. ick.)
Feel better soon!

Last time I had a sore throat I mixed a little fresh squeezed lemon juice with honey and a little water, and warmed it in the microwave. I was surprised that the lemon didn't kill my bladder, but to this day, a little lemon juice has never bothered me. I've read here that lemon is alkalizing. It really soothes my throat better than any lozenge.

Any idea what the source of the problem is? Allergy? Virus? How long has it been going on? Smoker? Yelling a lot? :) Just asking so that it'll indicate how long you've had it and how long it's going to stick around.

For sore throat: Tylenol for the pain, and lots and LOTS of fluids (I enjoy plain old ice water, or Barq's root beer).

Hard peppermint candies work wonders if they don't bother you. And oddly enough, I've always found that cinnamon Jolly Ranchers also help, but that's probably more iffy on the bladder.

What an adorable fur baby!
Look in the mirror at your throat and see if you have any white patches forming?
If you do, then you have strep throat and this needs antibiotics. If it is just a sore throat from post nasal drip or acid reflux you might try zinc lozengers.

My doctor recommends warm salt water gargle. It's really very soothing.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm going to declare war on these bugs. It isn't from allergeries or yelling. My throat is always red and tonstals (spelled wrong) are always swollen too. It's gone into my ears now which it always does. Never thought of using tylenol. Took another asprin but my old bladder and stomach are not happy campers at all. Will have to get some tomorrow when I go to town. Did get some of the easter cookies made but not sure about colored eggs. How can a little bug make such a problem?
