Can endometriosis start at any age out of the blue or does it usually start when you are in your early twenties? I was told today by a ultrasound tech that she didn't think I have endometriosis because I am too old to develop now, I will be 39 in one week... Also I am very very fertile and have two kids. She also said that it is something you are born with, predisposed to and either you will or won't get it.
Can anybody comment on this. She also said it has to be diagnosed laproscopically...
Thank you for any insight

no it can happen at any age.i was diagnosed at 38 with endo in nov.plus you can't really see it on a ultrasound the only way to diagnose is with a lap.

Hi:
You were diagnosed with it at age 38, but how far back can you remember you had your first symptoms of endo? Did it take awhile to get the diagnosis once you started to have symptoms.
If you don't mind my asking, what are your endo symptoms?
Thanks a lot, I am just trying to understand this condition all I can since there is a chance I could have it.
Thanks for a reply.

The problem with endometriosis is that they don't know all that much about it. Kind of like IC. So the tech was problably going on averages or theories, not facts, eccept that it is only diagnosed with a lap. Good luck to you! Grace

I agree with Grace and Court. I have read up on Endo. There is a website that I checked out last night http://www.endometriosis.org/ that was really informative. To confirm a diagnosis, you do have to undergo a lap.

Hello:
Thanks for the link and thoughts. I am also wondering and I can't find this online if the symptoms of Endo. come and go, can disappear and then reappear or if they tend to follow a pattern and show up pretty much like clockwork each cycle at the same time, be it at ovulation, menstruation etc?
Any ideas on this?

For me the endo pain was with mestruation and sometimes a little pain with ovulation, the rest of the month was fine. I've since had a hysterectomy, so that kind of pain is gone. But since the hyst. I've gotten IC.

I understand it is common for symptoms to go away during and after pregnancy and being on the pill too. I also have read you can have symptoms any time of the month. Endo can cause fertility problems, but that doesn't mean that you can't be fertile and have endo.

Good luck to you.

yes symptom can be worse before or during your cycle. i have always had painful periods.diagnosed with ic at 18 .my symptoms were pain in my right lower pelvic region. it took awhile to get a diagnosis the pain started in august but i had to fire 2 doctors and get into 2 new doctors.i also had a bladder infection for 3 months in a row.btw-the emergency room was a bust.i will never go there again. it was in the middle of the nightbut all he told me all i had was a bladder infection and refused to find out why i was in so much pain. i finally had a lap in nov and also took lupron which i don't reccomend.
you may have a lot of pain with sex.i hope this helps.pm me if you want more info
