Should you really wait until Thursday if it is really an infection??? That will really increase your pain and problems right now if you truely have a uti. I really wouldn't wait at all with all you have going on.

I agree with Leslie, things can get much worse if it's an infection setting in by waiting until Thursday...can they send an order to the lab so you can go directly there to drop off a sample?? I would hate to have to see you wait!

Me too...you are already in so much pain, I hate to see a UTI/Kidney infection fester by waiting, but I know it can be hard getting into the doctors office. I waited nearly 2 hours this morning when I went....But because I waited on going I am much worse now. Thankfully not a UTI but other stuff....I sure hope you start feeling better soon.

I am in alot of pelvic pain and it is getting worse . I think my gyno appt. is more important than the uti right now. I am going to family dr. as soon as i can.

Can your GYN check your urine (?)..I think most of them can check for a UTI. They have the supplies, and can sometimes send it out for culture from their office. Soooo sorry your going through all this pain! Your in my thoughts and prayers!

Good idea ChrissySunshine, that's who handles all my UTI's! ;) They test, send out for cultures and he Rx's my meds for them.

I think all your appointments are important with all that is going on with you. A uti is nothing to mess with and I would also think your GYN could handle this as well.

EmilyRose, don't wait. I suspected I was getting ANOTHER uti the past couple of days, I waited and went in today - all bladder heck just broke loose. I'm having major terminial disuria, pain upon voiding. If I had gone in when I thought I was getting something, I might have bypassed this misery I'm going through now. Run, don't walk to the nearest doc.

Yes please don't wait on this. Your having blood in the urine and that's serious :cussing: ask your gynae for a culture done and to just put you on anti right away, whether you get your results or not. Just to help for the meantime, if your gynae's appt is too far away, go to a GP and get a culture done. Just do somethin ASAP! Sounds scary and the pain is not worth it!!!

That's probably a disappointment. Only an IC patient will be glad to learn it's "just" an infection.

Well I'm not sure to say that's good or ok but ya know what it's good that you don't have an infection and didn't wait it out and let it get worse. But I'm really sorry about all the pain and this flare your going through. How long does your flare lasts, I'm not even sure when I'm in a flare recently it seems like I'm on and off in a flare or maybe my symptoms just got worse, I can't tell......

That seems to how I am.
One minute I feel fine and the next Im either burning or bloated from the IBS. I think bloating from the IBS is causeing some IC symptoms and that is when it hurts the most to pee........Most of the time its hard to tell which is causing me trouble and if its not one its another.......
Seems like prior to my cyst. and lap. 5 weeks ago I only had the urgencies and frequiencies but since my surgery I cant seem to get a handle on either situation.......
I see my dr. this morning for a follow up after surgery.......hopefuly he can shine some light on the matter.........

I hope you got some answers.... but I am sorry...
I found out that I have an infection so I am being treated for that.....so I guess thats why it was hurting too much and I went to see a gastro because I was thinking I have IBS and she suspects I do too...so I am put on medication to see if I have any relieve.
But I agree with you, I can't pinpoint which is causing what and the bloating and wutever does effect IC, grrrr!!!!

This a copy of another post I made this morning to another subscriber with similar issues and to save time I have copied it here.......
but my dr. visit went great this past week and I am thanking God every second that he has placed in my pathway the dr. he chose for me and my new friends and support here on ICN.

My dr. did tell me that he understands how difficult it is to tell where the pain comes from since I have IC and IBS with other things but in time I would be able to tell whats what through experience.......I can say that the time has shown me that with the meds. the IC is much better and yet the bloating and pain I currently experience is from the IBS while symptoms are usualy later in the day and evening time due to the all day pressures of food, stress and being on my feet........
I hope the latter part of this post will help you or someone else who might read it with similar problems with intercorse pain..........
GOD BLESS

COPIED FROM ANOTHER POST:

I am so sorry first of all for your pain and conception difficulties........
I have been there!

Trying to conceive with my daughter, now almost 9, was very difficult. It was before my IC diagnosis but in the midst of endometriosis.......
it took 8 months almost.........
I had always had UTI's and female problems but it was only until recently, March 27th that I had my surgery and was diagnosed IC........

I found a wonderful dr. and he has helped me tremendously..........

Pain? Heres what he did and I hope there maybe something I say that might help you...........

First off, sex was dreaded because the pain was so horrible that I can not even describe which led to the emotional rollercoaster of needing to full fill the intimacy with my husband and not being able to. This realy had an affect of our marriage because at that time according to all the drs. there was no reason for my pains........
Well when I met the dr. that I know God placed in my pathway he planned the surgeries and one was the cystop and the other laproscopy.......during which he lasered a lot of scar tissue that was also the culpret to most of my vaginal pain during sex........He also, prior to surgery showed me some vaginal massage therapy that my husband could do prior to sex to help relax the muscles. He said that due to fear of pain I tightend those muscles and over a period of yrs those muscles were tense and tightend all the time now........I had to loosen up my ffears, emotions and muscles and let go. What a job! It was like telling me to go the a horror house singing mary had a little lamb or something.......
Anyway since my surgery......it had been 7 weeks or so that we had intercorse with the prior pain and post op healing process.....so needless to say the first time was very fearful as I didnt know what to expect and by this time I had been on my meds for 4 weeks and had those scar tissues lasered. Anyway let me just say that while I still muscles that had to be treated through the therapy he showed us when my husband touched me the first time it was like he wasnt touching me at all..........it was a miracle and I knew that moment the lasering of the scar tissue took care of the majority of the pains.........there were two muscles one on each side of the vaginal wall that had to be relaxed and with the therapy shown to us we were able to accomplish this relaxation and sex for the first time in a very long time PAIN FREE...........amazing ! :woohoo:
I told my husband I felt like sending my dr. a dozen roses :)

I would love to tell you and anyone else interrested in knowing the massage techinque. Just let me know and I will post it.......its not a medical procedure and might not help but worth a try and the decription is not bad.
I was scared of it and a little imbarressed but honestly its great and we had fun with it too........ending results were a miracle......
This is a no cost procedure you and your mate can share and have fun with and it is the easiest way to get a handle on the pain and can save a lot of dr. visits and emotional torment.
My dr. said if it didnt help they would do injection into those muscles to help relax them.......I said no- way.......we can make this option work.

Once again I hope something I have said here might help you or others out there with the same questions but I do believe that part of the abilitly to conceive is also promoted by our ability to relax and let nature take its corse without stress........

Good luck to you and God Bless you

Hey Rhonda G! I'm interested in the technique, please post it!

Glad your interrested.......here it goes

Of corse all the great advise of lubrication and relaxation is the first key to
success.........
I started with a warm bath first and I find that its nice to Jonhson and Johnsons baby soap........the aroma is natural and for those of us sensitive to what we use in our water.....this works great....

before you start make sure you describe what your mate is suppose to do so there is less interruptions and maybe he could do this technique with out much interruption however you do have to guide him........

The mate inserts his finger into the vagina applies enough pressure for you to feel it all the way against the right wall of the vagina and then slides it down and over to the left wall of the vagina. This forms a "U" shape if you follow me.......He would repeat this applying enough pressure that you can hardly stand.......you then have to tell him to stop and pause on the areas that are more painful to you.........those are what my dr. calls the hot spots........he will apply the pressure on the hot spot as much as you can stand......the muscle will give.......you should both feel that.......then again with a little more pressure until it gives again.....My dr. said the muscle will generally give two times.........
I can tell you that before lasering the scar tissue my dr. couldnt touch me with out severe pain......so please know that this was the biggest help to me.......after the surgery it was only the hot spots that hurt not the whole "U" area.......my husband applied that pressure and I could feel the muscle give and there was a muscle on each side that was painful......after they gave in.......there was no pain at all........
If the pain is not in this U area you might ask your dr. about it......

Also know I am no dr. and this is not a fix all miracle thing but might help some of you out there if your pains are a result of tensed vaginal muscles.......
Make sure before you try anything knew you consult with your dr. first.....

I hope I was clear but if not feel free to PM me and ask.......

Let me know how it works.......

Thanks Rhonda! As soon as I get up enough nerve to actually try intercourse again we'll try it! It's been seven long months for us! The only other time (since I've been sexually active) that is has been that long was when I was single quite a few years ago. It sounds like it will work to me and believe me I have a more than willing personal massage therapist just waiting to help me out in anyway he can! HA! LMAO!

So glad hear the laughter in your tone and glad you think it might work.
My dr. told me that each time might be different but to keep it up before each intercorse........and like he told me......know you got to give it if you letting him go that far with you.........thats the hard part because like you said it takes nerves to get that far when we know pain as it is......
You know though, something you might want to talk to your other half about would be if he could do this therapy for you until you get comfortable with moving forward from there........but in return........instead of going all the way if he would be as satisfied with you helping him out in other ways........
People do this all the time and sometimes its for fun and not because they have to.......think about it....only you know what he would agree to and only you know what your willing or able to do.........

Goodluck to ya,

I know how the IBS can be confusing........
The Zelnorm helps me alot but I did figure out that it helps a lot better
if I take it at least 30 min. before I eat something.......
My IBS was horrible after my surgery March 27th but it seems to now be
getting better.....however the "tell the difference between IC and IBS" came
for me today when the IC flared...........I normaly take my meds on schedule
but never ever 8 hrs.........I never have to but today I reach for them quickly.
Now the burning has eased off some and going potty isnt as bad but I am so
sleepy from the meds.
Let me know how your IBS meds. work

Hey thanks for replying...
I have actually stopped the IBS medication for now....My infection is causing me alots of pain and I get confused when taking so many things so I have decided to wait till I get a prescription for my bladder infection and see if this weird swelling goes off...it's weird you know I have a really swallon ab look for several days/weeks then alllll of a sudden one day it's back to normal then it's back up for several weeks....I don't know what the :cussing: is causing it, so I was thinking it could be IBS....so yeah....

All I'm taking rite now is 10ml of Potassium Citrate once in awhile....while I wait to talk to my doc abt the Nitrofurantoin side effects....I did however take one dose of it because I was feeling like :cussing: and the constant urge/back pain was getting there so yeah....and I was worried about Kidney Infections...

What does it feel like to have a kidney infection, does anyone know?

:hi:
Its nice to know Im not the only one that gets confused by this.....as a matter of the fact when I went to see my dr. last week I felt like a nut telling him I didnt know one symptom from another or where it was coming from.......He told me this and although I did think I knew it was confirmed just by hearing him say what I needed to hear.......
He said:
Rhonda you are some what of a complicated lady.......ha ha............
He said:
You have pain in vaginal area, IC pain and IBS pain which all will cause similar symptoms but yet have their unique pain........My trouble was having a BM and the pain not being like that of cramps but actual pain in the lower plevic region.......he told me that the swelling of my abdomen, BM related pain, pressure and cramping would most likely be from the IBS.......urinary related pain would most likely be from the IC and Vaginal could be either or but could also be the mayofacial(however spelled) .............

I know Vampireness because when my IBS flares.........I look 5 months preg.
I have two sisters that love my diagnosis of IBS because when I told them about my symptoms they could relate.......
one minute your fine and the next you look preg., walk like you are about to go into labor and feel horrible......
I have delt with IBS for years but only recently got the diag. and started zelnorm so I know you can get it under control without the meds . for it but they help with the symptoms........I was determined to continue the meds. regardless of the one med for IBS and the other million for IC because I was afraid if I didnt it would take longer for me to get any of it under control.......and after several weeks I think I have the IBS under t hat control but like IC you can haave one symptom free day and the next be awful........just remember like IC......stress and foods can cause a flare up and so rather than cut my meds. I am trying to determine which foods are causing the flares from either IC syptoms or IBS symptoms.......
Try to drink lots of water and use a heating pad on you lower abdomen for the swelling........it helps........watch your spicy foods, sugars and caffine......its hard to eliminate a lot from your diet at once but cutting way back on the all and elimating a couple at a time will help. This way you can get the IBS under control witout stoppin g the med.

I am so sorry for the bladder infection
I hope you can get help for that soon.
Good l uck to ya.......

I have to get my babies out the door for school......

Have a good day

For me it feels like pain when you urinate and only urinating a little at a time and severe pain in your flank, I usually get mine in my left kidney so it throbs and aches as well as lower back pain. Basically you feel sick all over and you and sometimes you will run a fever.

Hope this helps! :)

Im sure a hysterectomy might help a lot of your symptoms/pain but
dont be surprised if it takes care of it all.......
I had the same thing, except pid. Hysto. almost 4 yrs. ago.......

I agree-waiting isn't good. I felt like a flare was coming on the past couple of days, and it steadily got worse. I dropped off a sample at my internist's office today after two sleepless nights and it is definitely a UTI. Yes, even though the pain is horrific, I am relieved to know it is an infection.

Did they change their mind and decide to take out your other ovary as well? You posted you're having a TAH done--is this a change? It definitely makes sense rather than risking having something go wrong with the remaining one.

Yes Barb as a medical coder and biller and surgical scheduler, a TAH means all of it, ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes, and cervix. She may want to consult her Dr as to her confusion between the 2 different hysterectomies. please make sure what you are signing is what you believe is happening to you. You could end up with the wrong surgery do to confussion. Here i found this in my coding information glad I saved it.I also gave you a link, but am sure you have seen all of this in researching the pro's and con's of a hysterectomy.

Subtotal Hysterectomy - removal of the uterus above the cervix, leaving the cervix intact.

Radical Hysterectomy - removal of the uterus and surrounding tissues

Total Hysterectomy with Bilateral Salpingoopherectomy (TAH-BSO) - Removal of the uterus, both Fallopian tubes, and both ovaries
