View Full Version : Afraid to try anything off the list

Hi, I was diagnosed six weeks ago, and have been on the diet since that day. After a few weeks, the diet was working great! :woohoo: I have plenty of sympathy from my four kids who just feel sooo sorry for me not being able to eat so many things. They help me keep my perspective.
I told the doc I was going to pass on the other treatments for now.
Now I am thinking about trying some of those foods on the "maybe" list, and have tried a few, but after the problems I had with Ibuprophen last week (didn't know it was a no-no) I am afraid to try new things, and wonder if its even worth it. I am also wondering if some things I could tolerate might still be harmful to my bladder even if I am not noticing marked symptoms. :loco:
Is it worth going through the flare-ups to find those few extra foods I might be able to eat? Does anyone else worry about what those "maybe" foods might be quietly doing to us?
Thanks for this wonderful website and for any advice!

I would say it's a little soon to be adding foods unless you are feeling really good. Then I would try just a little bit of the potential problem food to see how it goes. If you do okay on one or two bites, then try a little more the following day and gradually increase to a full serving. If it causes pain, then stop.
I would wait longer before trying such things as fruit juices and especially coffee and sodas. They are usually a problem.
I'm glad the diet is helping you feel better --- it definitely makes it worth the effort.
Hugs,

I was also just diagnosed about 5 weeks ago and to me trying new things is worth it. If I can add a few things back in that might make eating less of a challenge it would help. I was the frozen dinner, pre-packaged, and resturant queen. I am a terrible cook and I hate doing it, especially after working all day.
Ibuprophen is bad? I didn't know that. Do you know why it's bad?

Ibuprofen is pretty acidic. I know it causes stomach problems too. I was fortunate enough, my bladder didn't mind it all...actually helped my bladder pain, go figure! ;)

Hey there Melissa!! Here's a link right to the IC Diet Foods list, it makes things so much easier!! (if you haven't found it already, lol) I printed it out and took it everywhere with me, to the grocery store, restaurants etc. It was really a life saver!!

When I started the diet, I built myself a diet solely out of the "Usually Ok" list, for a few weeks until my bladder calmed down. Then I started reintroducing foods from the "May Be Ok" list. This is the beginning of finding your trigger foods. I would try a new one every 2-3 days. If I had an increase in symptoms, I would put in on my no-no list to be re-tried at a later date. If I re-tried it and it didn't pass the test again, it went on my permanent no-no list. The list of foods that you can eat will most likely be much bigger than the no-no foods list. It's just boring in the beginning while letting your bladder calm down. But that phase is just temporary - for however long it takes to give the bladder a break.
Hope this helps a little bit!!!!
Hugs!
