well my name is Cindy Alsobrooks and im 26 yrs old and i have been married for 5 yrs. I guess you can say that my story begins when i was a little girl i have always had problems with my kidneys and bladder but my parents just kept taking me to the doctor and the doctor would always tell my parents that she has a UTI yeah right! Well when i got older and got married my husband would have to take me to the hospital 2 or 3 times a month because i was in so much pain and bleeding, the doctor would always tell me that i had a UTI and gave me meds and sent me home well a month ago i went back to the hospital because i was having the same problems again....well the doctor finally told me that i needed to go a specialty. So i go the doctor and he checks me and he tells me that there was nothing wrong with my bladder or my kidneys he told me that i needed to see my female doctor because it had to be my ovaries or something like that, well i went to see him on April 4th of this year and he asked me some questions and then he told that he knew what i had but went ahead and checked when came back into the room he told me that i had Interstitial Cystitis (IC), and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, for people that dont know what that is., it is where my ovaries are not producing eggs so i cant get pregant or even have a period. I told him that i was a lot of pain in my lower back, he told me the reason that i was having so much pain was because my uterus was growing into my pelvis, i was shocked to hear that but he told me that all could be treated but i would never be cured from it. But anyway he has me on 5 different meds that i take 2 times a day and i just take life on day at a time. Thank God that i have freinds and family and the support group that i have found online, or i would go insane.

Hi Cindy-
Welcome aboard! This is an awesome place to come for advice or a little mental pick-me-up! I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I too have had urinary problems since I was a small child and have heard the UTI rapp my whole life.
I was diagnosed last week with IC. Having a doctor that knows of the condition and works with you is really important. Sounds like you have that going on.
I don't know much about POS. I am having a laproscopy done on May 3rd as my GYN also thinks I have endometriosis. I have an unbelievable amount of low back pain.
I use heating pads and pain pills to treat the pain. Best to not let it get toooooooo severe, ha! Like we really have a choice, huh?
Hang in there and read the boards. THere is alot of great advice here.

:welcome: to the ICN! Youch sorry about your length of time in suffering and your diagnosis. IC can be in part the cause of some of that back pain too. I am 29...been married around 6 years, got diagnosed at age 24, had symptoms already at age 13. Your not alone having multiple problems here. It took me a long time to get a diagnosis and I saw doctors too....in part I think I should have complainned more but personally I feel very let down by the doctors. I have had a full hysterectomy because of endometriosis. I hope you are feeling a lot better real soon. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or want to talk. :grouphug:

:welcome: aboard! Hope you find some very useful information on here, I know you will.
I'm curious though - you mention your gyno diagnosed you with IC and with PCOS - based on just what you told him?? He didnt do any diagnostic testing for PCOS at all? A uro should confirm dx of IC as well....I'd be hesitant to accept either diagnosis until they were both confirmed. Any doctor that diagnosis something as serious as PCOS or IC just based on symptoms w/out confirmation seems a bit scary to me. Back pain can be caused by many things as well - IC causes my back pain, as well as does my fibro. If your gyno hasnt looked by doing a laprascope, how can he know 100 percent that your uterus is growing into your pelvis? Does he mean adhesions? That too should be (and is easily checked) by a laprascope.
I'd be questioning your doctor if I were you - you deserve difinitive answers not best guesses.
