Hi again all! I've got yet ANOTHER problem, I'm thinking it might be medication induced, but I'm not sure??? My calves have been swelling for the past few nights, the left one worse than the right. My fever is up a bit (100.1 last night, 99.6 today), and I had just a bit of shortness of breath. The swelling goes down if I lay down, and the longer I'm up it's worse. There's not pain in my legs, just tightness. Called my GP, who sent me to ER this am, everything is normal...they checked me for a DVT...my labs were normal, so they didn't do the leg scan thing. (They were thinking it's a blood clot...DVT). I have been very inactive lately, as my pain has been so severe!
I'm just wondering if anyone has had this type of symptom from medication??? I'm on sooo many meds...please see my signature..and add hydroxizine 25mg bid and ambien cr .625. No med changes associated with the 3 nights of leg swelling.... :hmm:

I don't know if it could be med related or not? I hope it resolves itself soon and was just a fluke! But I'd definately keep close watch!!

Chrissy,
I have one leg that swells frequently. I have had 2 clots in that leg and have discoloration from blood pooling. I almost constantly have a low grade fever and the docs in CA said it was from the inflammation related to the IC. I know it is scary to have that happen. The last time I had the clot I woke up one morning to the swelling and a huge red streak up my leg. I went to the ER(the one in CA that treated me like dog doo doo)and they let me pick up my daughter from school and return to the ER(they waited hours to do anything)and then ran a blood test that showed I had a clot and then did an ultrasound. I wound up spending the next 5 days in the hospital.

PS I would be willing to bet it is not med induced but inactivity induced. I had issues after a rotten flare while hubby was in Iraq. I have wonderful timing.

Thanx guys, Babs..they did the blood test for clot- "D-Dimer", and it was normal (mine was .33....nl range is <.5). I'm not too concerned about the fever...I've had a low-grade fever for YEARS on and off, and also seem to have one when I'm flaring (which is most of the time!!). I'm glad you're OK, must have been scary.... I'm going to follow up with my GP on Monday.

that is true barb. I have been on bed rest for 3 wks now and I just got dxed with edema the other week by my dr he said because I have been inactive and on bed rest that is why I am swelling so bad.

Yep, I'm thinking too it's just from inactivity. My pain has been out of control lately. I don't exercise at all anymore, barely get in some stretching once a week or so now (and I can BARELY manage that!). I hate what this has done to me!!

Chrissy,
I had the d-dimer done as well(which prompted them to do the US)and mine was 3.0! I have noticed that with prolonged standing my leg is more swollen. I am on life long Coumadin therapy now.

do you eat alot of salt by chance? That can aggrevate everything and being inactive doesnt help either. Hytrin can cause edema, especially if you arent watching your salt intake - that is one of the most common side effects. You can also try placing your feet above your heart (lie down with a pillow under your hips/legs) for about 30 minutes.
Hope you're feeling better today!
