Hubby and I had to give some blood and have our blood pressure taken for our health insurance. I guess it was a screening, they did glucose and cholesterol and all that stuff.
My blood pressure and glucose were perfect, however...
They diagnosed me with Metabolic Syndrome! Anyone have this? My triglycerides were through the roof, but everything else was normal. I am wondering if my body is back to normal yet...after all, I just gave birth a month ago! There wasn't anything on there asking if you've given birth recently. Maybe it doesn't matter, I don't know...
I also noticed that my blood count was high, which I know is from IC/autoimmune diseases. But I am just curious about this Metabolic Syndrome. HELP!

I wish I could answer your question. I'll do some checking and see if any of my books has anything on it.

I don't understand why you were dx with metabolic syndrome if your glucose & blood pressure were fine. From what I've read to be dx with metabolic syndrome you must have 3 or more of the following:
Waist circumference >88 cm, Women
Triglycerides >=150 mg/dL
HDL-cholesterol < 50 mg/dL, Women
Blood pressure >=130/85 mm Hg
Fasting glucose >=110 mg/dL
I have a friend whose daughter has this. I thought the biggest component of metabolic syndrome was insulin resistance. I don't understand why you were dx with this just because of your triglyceride level alone.

I've never heard of this. Hopefully you'll get an answer to this soon. Maybe it does have something to do with having been pregnant recently. :grouphug:

Hi there,
Do you have any kidney disease, had a recent infection, pyelonephritis etcc....these conditions can falsely elevate your blood levels, or lower them as well. I appreciate that you gave birth a month ago but just wanted to check you hadn't had any of these wthin the last month? Is there a familial history of hyperlipidaema?

Hello - I am a Nurse Practitioner who works with a lot of MEtabolic Syndrome patients. Here is the criteria (you need 3 of them to be considered having metabolic syndrome):
- Central obesity as measured by waist circumference (Men greater than 40 in; women greater than 35 in)
- Fasting blood triglycerides greater than or equal to 150 mg/dl
- Blood HDL (the good kind) - men less than 40; women less than 50
- Blood pressure greater than or equal to 130/85 (not on meds)
- Fasting glucose greater than or equal to 110 mg/dl
Hope that helps - LIZ :)
