period and IC flare up....possible TMI

Ok ladies i need some advice please......i am new to IC and i have a question about my period. i am having my period now and in ALOT of IC pain!!!!

A) is there anything i can do to help the pain??? the percocet is not helping

B) is using tampons gonna make the pain worse?

Cant help with the tampon question. I had a hysterectomy in 1999 and never used them before.

About the pain have you ever tried Ultram? It is a non-narcotic pain med. Some find it helps with IC, I do, but others find it does not help much...Also what about a heating pad

i feel like someone is flicking my bladder all over and my urethra is on FIRE!!!!! can we say OUCH!!!! I was starting to get a better control on managing my PAIN but now i wanna crawl in a hole and die :hmm:

I'm in the same boat right now. Yes, a heating pad on your back may help and a cold pack between the legs. I use a bag of frozen peas or a cold can of soda. I use tampons, it doesn't make it worse, but doesn't help things, either. Use the smallest one you can get by with. Playtex Pearl seem to be the least painful to insert. I can't tolerate pads as I also have vulvodynia. Sorry you are in pain. I do have a pain med for IC but ibuprofen works better for me when I'm on my period. I can tolerate ibuprofen, but have heard that many with IC can't. Also, pyridium (sold OTC as Uristat or AZO) helps with the burning. Hope you feel better soon.
