Hi,

Make this quick, I am trying to get this Laparoscopy done, today i spoke w/1 of the women at the gyn's office who stated that she doesn't have all the pricing yet but it will probably run about 5000.00

What i do not understand is she mentioned something about a laparadomy? i left message w/my doc's assistant about it but i prob won't hear from her til Monday. I am very confused, i thought the lap was an out patient procedure now they are saying i spend 2 days in the hospital. Does anyone have any suggestions why my doctor is doing this? I just spoke w/my gyn on wed about the lap nothing was mentioned about a laparadomy is this normal?

Thanks,
Tracey

A laparoscopy is usually a out patient procedure if there are no reasons for a over night stay. A laparatomy is an actually incision on your tummy that may take some staples or monitoring from the hospital staff. This just dependeds on how they are able to do your sugery. Theyare usually scheduled as a laparscopy possible laparomoty meaning it is a possibility that you may need a bigger incision done.

I am having a laprotomy . A laprotomy is where they acutually make and incision in your stomach that require stitiched and you do need to stay in the hostipal to be monitored .

The others are correct. Sometimes patients are kept overnight following laparoscopic surgery, depending on what procedure was done. I had my gall bladder removed via laparoscopic surgery and was hospitalized for four days.

Many times physicians will schedule laparoscopic surgery, but will also discuss with the patient the possibility that it may have to be changed to a laparotomy. Actually, it's best that way because there wouldn't have to be another hospitalization and anesthetic. I know when I had my gall bladder removed, the surgeon told me ahead of time that if there were problems, I would wake up with a real abdominal surgery.

Tracey, what are you having the laproscope done for? Just curious, because that would make a difference on whether an overnight stay is necessary or not. My mom had laproscopic gall bladder surgery in the am and was released in the pm, also my good friend had hernia surgery also in the am and released in the pm. It depends on what it is and how you handle it I guess.

Hey Rose,

Doing the lap to check for Endo. i talked to the Gyn's assistant today & she explained about why the laparodomy was brought up & that it prob won't be necessary but just in case. It's 3100.00 which actualy isn't ridiculous but still when you don't got it ya don't got it LOL. I'll get more info this week from the clinic and see if it's cheaper through them.

Thanks again everyone for the info.
Hope all are feeling well,
Tracey :)

Tracey - we've all gotten so well versed in medical procedures, I'm sure one of us can do it for less! LOL

Hey Steph,

Thats a marvelous idea, wouldn't it be great if we could help each other like that!!

Ok 1 last question, do you ladies have any advice on whether i should do this. I know i am the only 1 who can make the final decsion but alot of you have been here before. Should i spend my last dime to do this or wait for the clinic? My next life i have decided to return as a man hehe.

Thanks,
Tracey :)
