:woohoo: Thanx to fireballdixie,(who suggested I might have had a reaction to the latex cath )
My 2nd instill went well.
My uro used a non-latex cath and *WOW* big difference!
This time, there was no problem inserting it and I could void right after.
No spasms either..
what I did have after this treatment was a migraine
(since wed)..
with nausea..
I was throwing up a lot..
better today..
I have to run to the bathroom every few min feeling like I have a full bladder..
but only a few drips come out.
I have no burning afterwards, or spasms..
just the pressure and urgency to want to go..
Feeling no pain is a good thing right now
:woohoo:

If you're not feeling better this morning, you really should be checked to be certain you don't have an infection brewing. Any time we are catheterized, there is a chance for infection.
Warm healing thoughts,

I second that. I was supposed to have a series of 3 x per week for 3-4 weeks. After five, I developed a raging UTI that has taken nearly three weeks to get rid of. I still haven't decided what I'm going to do once things settle down. Donna, you're right, now matter how sterile, there's a greater chance for infection when catherized.

I agree with the other ladies...I'd call your doctor if you're not feeling better.
You know, I've read alot on here about people have instills, cysto's/hydros and not getting any antibiotics. Is it just me or has this become the norm? Whenever I had a cysto/hyrdo or instill...I was always sent home with antibiotics in case of infection....?? Have things changed that much over the years from when I had all of these procedures done?

there right hon each time you get cath your at a huge risk of getting an real UTI. please have your dr. to check you for a real uti and ask for it to be sent to the lab to be tested. I don't like the in office labs much because they can only guess on what is the right anti. if it is sent out to a lab (if you do show an infection in the office.) they can see what is the right anti. for you to use so you can get better a lot quicker!)
another thing when you go back for your next installment have them to give you a sample anti. most office's has cipro or leviquin on hand.) have them to give you one to mass out the risk of a UTI.
Glad the latex tip helped you.
sending you hugs and prayers

I'm on macrobid, I take everyday to ward off infections cause i do get them all the time..
I always have my urine checked in the office, and if it does show signs of infection, I always INSIST on having it sent off to the lab..
but they never listen to me cause of being on the maintenance dose of antibiotics..
My last bouts of infections (IC FLARE) turned not to grow out anything which lead to my instills of DMSO..
I'm still having
the urgency problem, off and on..
through out the day..
meaning for 4 hrs, I might run to the bathroom 20 X
and than for the next 4 hrs 8 X..
make it through the night.. ( 2am to 6am) don't sleep much.. with out having to get up at all..
than it flip flops..
but no pain.. Thank GOD for that!
I go for my 3rd instill on Friday.
so, we will see what happens..

melissa,
I have been on elmiron for 2 years now.. and it has helped me tons!
I just started to have more frequent flares and for longer periods of time in the last 4 months..
so my uro suggested the DMSO instills..
I don't know how I will respond to those yet..
so, I can only tell you what I have experienced.
Which I think is what you are searching for..
I'm still on elmiron, My uro hasn't stopped it because it is still benefiting in some ways.. even if they are small.
I'm going to keep doing my research and asking questions just like you..

I have been on ELMIRON oraley but never had them instaled in my bladder like the DMSO treatments. The Elmiron did not work wnd either did the DMSO treatments.I had Interstim surgery in DEC.I have had a lot of new found pain in my BLADDER so bad sometimes I want to scream I use to be able to handle the pain but it hurts to move ,sit ,bend, walk, etc. And the surgeron wants me to try doing the ELMIRON INSTALED IN THE BLADDER.Because he told me that we have tried pretty much all meds. oraley and they have failed which is why my reg.uro. had sent me to him for surgery. So I am not sure if I want to attempt something that has failed in the past. What would you do?

The first thing I'd do is NOT GIVE UP!
You have to keep trying and trying over and over again.. until something works..
I know it is so frustrating! Painful, and Dr's just don't seem to get it when they tell you that they are running out of options!
That makes me sooo very angry and it's unfair to their patients..
If he can't help you don't waste your time send you to someone who will try and research like your doing.
Find a doctor who is up on the latest studies.
there is so much info on this site and so many ppl that have gone through this and more..
Yes, more..
Use the tools that lay before you and keep pushing toward finding what works for you!
You can't stop..

I was seening a diffrent uro.I loved him his name is RUSSELL TACKETT He was the 4 th uro I went to and the only one who ever belived me and kept beliving me.He sent me to the uro I see now because he wanted me to have surgery because all meds have failed. So this doctor was my last resort.Dr.Tackett did not know what to do for me he knew that I was in very bad shape and pain. With hardly any sleep even with sleeping meds.I still get up at night to go to the restroom even after the INTERSTIM IMPLANT THAT I HAVE NOTHING BUT PAIN FROM.So it is now one of those things where and what do I do from here.I had thought about having a counsultion with my old uro and see what he tells me.But I just do not know what to do anymore .

:cussing: Oh I know it is so frustrating! Doctors!
but you know, I would never have my bladder operated on ever again..
it does not respond well!!!
I'm sorry that your having so much pain with it..
I guess all we can do is keep trying!
and not give up... :help:
