Cytotec made me wonder about some other meds that are used for the stomach and intestines - especially ulcers. One is an old remedy called mastic gum that has helped people with certain ulcers. Supposedly it killed H.pylori in a test tube but not in vivo (in a person), but it has been effective against duodenal ulcers and they don't know why except it strenghtens the mucosa somehow.

The other is a prescription that coats ulcers. Could it do it in a bladder? Here is a quote:
Sucralfate is used to treat ulcers. It adheres to damaged ulcer tissue and protects against acid and enzymes so healing can occur.

Just FYI PV. Good news - my flare is subsiding a little, but too soon to say for sure.

I take carafate for my ulcers as needed and I've seen no benefit at all to my bladder from it. It does make sense that it could possibly help....maybe in higher doses than what I take for the ulcers?? Dunno...but it's a wonderful thought!

Thanks for your reply about the ulcer drug - that is why this is such a great site. Maybe mastic gum would help your stomach too. My daughter is off wheat and her headaches have improved.

I have some mastic gum, but have been afraid to take it for the bladder.

Has anyone tried it?

good idea. Anything that heals any lining may help...
