Hello Everyone,

My name is Corinne and I am 19 years old. I was just diagnosed with IC yesterday. I have been having the pain and frequent urination for years now but in the last 6 months it has gotten worse to the point where I had to leave school for a medical leave. All of this has been very frustrating, the people around me are trying to be supportive but I always feel that since I dont "look" sick it is hard for them. I am trying very hard to work through all of this but it is so hard. I dont really sleep much anymore cuz of the frequent urination< i couldnt tell you the last time i slept all the way through the night. I know for most of you this is what you are going through too. I am happy that there is a place that I go to to express my feelings with other people that will understand. It is nice te be here.

Now that you have a diagnosis, you can begin to take some steps to help you feel better. Have you read the information in the Patient Handbook (link is at the top of this page). I especially suggest you read the diet information and begin an IC diet immediately if you haven't already. Some ICers find that single thing does more than any one other thing to help control symptoms.

Sending warm healing thoughts,
Donna

Hi Corinne, glad to have you join us!

It really stinks that you should have to deal with IC at such a young age! I was in my late teens when my symptoms began. I sure remember having better things to do than what my bladder often had planned!

Please do check out the IC diet. That was the one best thing I learned for controlling my symptoms!

It is hard for others to understand that we can feel so awful because you're right, -we look fine. I think too, it's not easy for others to relate to one's bladder being capable of causing such misery. That's the great thing about this site, people here have a good idea of what you're going through. I do want you to know that the time of diagnosis is usually the darkest time. Most of us do find meds, treatments, and/or tricks that knocks our IC off of center stage leaving us to live our lives. You'll get there too!

Again, welcome!
Vicki

I'm sorry you've got an IC diagnosis, especially at such a very young age, but I'm glad you've found this site. It's a great place for help and support. Someone will always be around here when you need them.
