I had them on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week while I was on vacation. I am going to have 2 per week the next 3 weeks . I felt pretty good on Thursday, the day after the 2nd one but I now it feels like my ureathra is on fire. :cussing: My frequency has been down most of the week but over last 5 or 6 hours it has been on the increase. Btw my period is has started so I will probably be couped at home this weekend as I have my usual period induced flare. I used to not flare all that much during my periods but since about a year ago I have flared almost with every one of them. That along with the fact that I now have Hunner's leads me to believe my IC is Progressive. I don't know how much more progression I can take without having a nervous breakdown. I am soooooo tired of this awful disease contoilling my life. I am going back to work on Monday if at all possible and sure hope I am not running to bathroom every 10 minutes :toilet: I am almost to the point of wanting to quit my job and try for disability but I hate the idea that at 34 yrs old ( I turn 35 in Oct) that my career may be over. I love to work and I don't want to give it up. I am sooooooo depressed. :help: I sure wish they could a find a cure for this disease so we could all be nomal again. I HATE IC, I HATE IT, I HATE IT, I HATE IT!

Period time is just awful for most. The burning uretha may be caused by the catheter & maybe a little cortisone cream might relieve it. Use an ice pack after instills, it sure helps me. Hope you feel better soon.

Texas Honey- The doc just put me on Detrol so everytime I take it I sing :woohoo:Gotta go, Gotta go right now. I know how you feel, with this disease. Sweetie I'm 38 and doing what I love to teach 4th grade -and I finally bought a house with my man after 17 years of marriage. :woohoo: . Yet, I'm just waiting to see how long can I make it without having to stop working. :bonk:Oh I have two beautiful kids who at 12 and 14 finally have a backyard -Its just not fair .:headbang:

TexasHoney - you may want to be checked for a bladder infection. I started a series of instills 3x a week for 3-4 weeks. After the fifth instill I got a raging bladder infection that even after a 10 day course of Macrobid wasn't completely gone and now I'm on Keflex because the darn bacteria are resistant to sulpha. Putting in a catheter is prime for possibly getting an infection, and it also can cause discomfort. You may want to drop by your uro's office and deliver them a sample.

Question? What are a series of instills. I have ic but don't know why those who have it, have to have instills. Hopefully, I won't ever have too. Ann

series of installments is when a Dr. orders you to come in any where from onces to three times a week to have either dmso (which is not good for an IC bladder new studies shows and more painful in my case.) or heparin rescue treatments over a peroid of six to eight weeks to see if it will help kick in the elimron quicker into the blood stream so your bladder can start to build a stronger lining back up.
then some dr. hope that the installments alone will be enough to help some ICers go into remission.
hope this helps explain this a bit better for you.
you can also find information about this in the handbook that may make it more clearer then I did.
www.ic-network.com/handbook to be honest the rescue heparin treatments is a still a God sent to me. I've been doing them now for over two years at home.

Hey its Nina 23- I just finished the DMSO's treatment and 4 months later my
doctor says I may need more. I took the survey on the forum on DmSO and
it says that it says that during DMSO treatment doctors should not be using full 50% concentration level. My doc says though thats how they come. :hmm: :help:

Hey guys what's the latest info on DMSO's and why aren't they okay. I'm due to do more-not to mention I'm getting really bad muscles spasms on my lower back shooting down my leg-could this be from the many DMSO's Ive done :loco: Boy talk about being nervous :help: :bonk:

well nina some disagree and say that dmso has helped them very much others are like me and say don't touch them with dmso installment with a ten foot pole (lol) anyways it really depend on which treatment there going to use on you. if you haven't read jill's thread on the latest research on dmso.
I guess it really depends on the person, Dr, and what there using.
I wish you lots of luck hon.
remember its always best to relax.

:hi: Nina,
says that it says that during DMSO treatment doctors should not be using full 50% concentration level. My doc says though thats how they come. That may be but most doctors dilute it further...at least to 25% if they have read the current info....coctails are best.

Yes...that is one of the kinds of dammage from DMSO is musscle dammage causing spasms. I have heard quite a few complaints of people they never had a musscle spasm till DMSO. :grouphug:
http://www.ic-network.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22386 this speaks on the problems of DMSO....rescue installtions are a better choice since people are having success with them and there isn't the huge amount of problems.
I am giving you the following links so that you know there are other options of treatment out there.
http://www.ichelp.com/TreatmentAndSelfHelp/medsguide.html ICA treatments and Meds
http://www.remedyfind.com/hc-Interstitial-Cystitis.asp This is a link to a site with IC treatments rated by patients.
Feel free to contact me if you still have more quesitons.

TexasHoney, sure hope you feel better soon!!

Ann, Installtions are when a catheder puts a medicaiton directly into your bladder. A series in the case of DMSO is one a week for 6-8 weeks and than none till you need another....in rescue istalltions you may just take them when flaring or need them...it seems to vary a lot on the patient.
