:hi: I am 27 years old. Being diagnosed with this is overwhelming.

I guess I am lucky though. From what I have read, my diagnosis was quick and easy.

I went to the doc the week before xmas with what I thought was a bladder infection. I was given antibiotic and sent on my merry way. A week later infection was still there. I was given more antibiotic.

A few days later, Friday of New Years weekend, I was up most of the night in pain. I called the hospital and they paged my doctor. (this is 2am) She told me that my second culture test showed that I had no infection. Then she mentioned this intersistal thing. She told me she would prescribe me some medication (Elmiron). I jumped on line to see what it was and the price. Price was high. I went back to my doc on Monday. She told me that she wanted me to see a urologist. I told her that I didnt want to be on any medicine until we knew what was going on.

Today I had my second apt with my urologist. He confirmed the diagnois. He and his nurse were so wonderful and helpful. They gave me an armload of information and told me to call if I had any questions. I have been at the computer most of the day and found this site. Lots of great info.

A little about me:
Born in small town America in the cornfields of IL
Love country music!
I work a crazy shift. I am a dispatcher at a major transportation company. Most of my drivers are local good 'ol boys and I love them dearly.
I am engaged to a wonderful man. No date set. We do live together and he is an angel
We have two cats..our children

This looks to be a journey that will take many angels. I am scared and optimistic. My mom and my aunt have fibromyalgia. I have seen them go thru so much with not having an exact cause for pain and discomfort. I will draw from their example, and the examples of people who share my pain.

Hi Kuntrygurl! I'm still a kuntrygurl myself. I was born in IL too, but now living in PA. Glad you didn't have to suffer long before knowing what was happening. You found the right place for info and support. I have learned more here than I ever could hope to learn from my doctors. I hope you find some treatment to get you feeling like yourself again very soon. Check out the patient handbook. You will find loads of info. Definetly look into the sites Katrina gave you. They are very helpful. Hope to see you around the boards!

Jen

Welcome! This really is the best site for information about IC. It helped me tremendously when I was first diagnosed. Just so you know, most of us eventually feel good and leave normal lives. I know when I was first diagnosed, I really needed to hear that. I've had IC for nearly three years, but I feel normal most days with the exception of an occational flare. But, I've found the meds that work for me...and you will too.
