I've been caughing for the past two weeks with no apparent reason and it has gotten much worse over the past 3 days. I know it's useless to go to a doctor about it because they would just proscribe me some medication that will make my body freak out. Is there any anti-cold remedy or med that you guys know of or do that doesn't set off your body?

I use the generic for Chlor-Trimeton at the suggestion of my doctor.

Here are a few of my favorite (for me, IC friendly) cold remedies...
1. Hot showers with a "Sudacare Shower Soother" on the floor (fizzy tablet that releases Vicks type vapors when the hot water hits it)
2. Rinsing nose out with "Simply Saline"-reduces congestion
3. Vicks "Baby Rub"- milder than regular Vicks & more soothing
4. BreatheRight nasal strips (stick on to outside of your nose to open it up more)
5. Hot pear juice with a little honey
6. For sore throat & to soothe dry cough, Werthers Original hard candy
7. Gargle with salt water
8. Homemade chicken soup (I add a little red bell pepper for vitamin C)

Feel better soon!

Kadi, your post reminds me of my childhood. When we caught a cold, my mother would slather the Vicks on our necks, backs, chests, and even just below our noses. And she was always puzzled about why I always got sicker, and always had a rash, any time I had a cold.

I think I was about 20 when I discovered that I have an allergy to eucalyptus --- it's no wonder I got so sick.
