I want to get a tattoo to symbolize my a change in my life. I have IC, but I am much better since using DMSO instillations. I want something small, with color. I just can't think of anything good...I'm not very artistic! Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks :)

Hey, go for it. I did the exact thing.

About six years I went through a life changing experience. I had just recently separated from my x-husband and I moved to a new city, new start. It was very difficult at first being away from my family, new city, new everything but I new I had control of my own destiny so I got the chinese symbol "destiny" tatooed on my lower back. It is not big at all, maybe a touch bigger than a quarter. I think it took the artist all of 5 mintues to put it on. When I get down and life doesn't seem to be going in the direction I'd like to see it go, I look at it. Reminds me that I have the control.

That's awesome. Mine will probably be about the same size, since I have to hide it from my parents...they would kill me..LoL, oh well..I'll show them, it's not like I live at home anymore....anyways...I'm trying to decide on the design itself and also where on my body. I thought about lower right side of my stomach...but I've been hearing about the ink irritating the bladder?!...But, I will definately be getting one here in the next couple weeks. Probably going to talk to my uro. about it, since I'm basically like a daughter to him b/c I see him so often. Let me know if you can think of or come across anything "cutesy". :)

My next tattoo is going to be a butterfly. I think butterflies represent a great change in life.

I actually thought about a butterfly last night for the first time. I think it's a great idea! :)

How about a butterful tattoo with the colors being used for the IC-network...have some white and a lot of teal throughout...I wish I could draw and put something together myself...can the tattoo artist make their own design there and then put it on immediately... or does it take a few days or so to get the design done?

I have toyed with the idea of a tattoo for years. Just haven't had the nerve to do it as yet! However, I know what I will have..a small dragon in purple and green
to symbolize strength and courage. Hahaa, I need one to find the guts to get it done.
would someone please tell me if it does hurt and how much?

Ok, Jen, I have to ask. How do you see the tatoo?

I have thought of a shamrock........my kids all went to a Notre Dame high school.....and I figure that I deserve at least something Irish after all of that tuition....lol

Ah Julie,
The PAYing of the green!! LOL!

Maybe a four leaf clover .... for luck, would be appropriate?

:) Rosalie, I will give you my honest opinion, but keep in mind that every one's pain treshold is different, what I might consider painful, you may not think is too bad, I have been told different things by people, including my daughter, some say it's agony, and some say it's not that painful at all, I guess I will find out on saturday, oh and it also depends where you have it done, a bony area will hurt more, I am having mine done just above the ankle,

Julie B...LOL, good question, I have to look in the mirror.

I think it all depends on where it is done. Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others. Mine, was ok, pin pricks and that is about it. If it is small it doesn't take alot of time to have them done. It is the general maintence afterwards that takes the time.

I'm so excited you are having them done and I love everybody's ideas. My girlfriend has a butterfly on her ankle.

Oh I look back to the day I had mine done, after the tatoo I was getting my navel pierced...LOL...nope didn't happen. The guy came around the corner, he had his ear lobes with those big circle rings in them, saw that and I past out...lol. Boom, down on the floor. Guess I wasn't meant to have that done, one alter to my body was enough.

Maybe we should come up with a design for an "IC" tatoo, I'd do it.

:) ok, here is my tattoo, got it done today and I must say it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would, my foot has gone a bit of a funny colour , but that will settle in time, the tattooist told me that the amount of pain you will have depends on where you have it done, some places are more sensitive than others.

I was thinking about you today Martha, and your tattooing experience. I want to hear ALL the gory details. Your ankle looks sore! Does it still hurt? I'm being a bit of a coward here.

:) Rosalie, no it doesn't hurt, honestly, a little stinging but only a little bit, I have to apply Bepanthen cream, it's a antiseptic cream, my foot looks a little dark but that is from the ink, he kept wiping the excess away with I think a solution with alcohol, I reckon he should serve the customers something alcoholic hahaaaaa, he also asked me if I had something to eat, and of course I hadn't, so he sent me to the bakery next door, I think he was worried I was going to faint or something, LOL, but honestly I found the whole thing nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be, go on Ro have a go at it, it's not that bad, you could have something small, it wouldn't take long to do, mine only took approx 20 minutes,

I'm thinking about it ! a looooooooong think. But I had better reduce the surface area of where I would like one! Other wise it may droop :biglaugh:

:) That's why I had the tattoo done on the ankle, it's just about the only place not going south like the rest, :biglaugh:

LOL quiltz! THAT was too cute...Crikey the Crab! Awesome! :D

Nice tat sheebah.....I thought of getting one but I"m too scared! I could handle getting my belly button pierced..twice even....but a tatoo I"m scared of! :biglaugh:

I think I'll stick to the "rub on" type of tat - ya know the type you can take off with baby oil? :D ALthough..I did have an urge to get my nosed pierced yesterday at the mall...was just walking along and a little voice said to me "Hey..lets get our nosed pierced just for fun" I seriously thought about it...looked at the little studs and everything....then I ran away!

Must be the bi-polar in me LOL! Thank God for that else I'd have another hole in my nose and hubby wouldnt be too happy about that.

:) thanks guys, I am really happy with my tattoo called Crickey, that was Karma's idea!!
I thought I was meant to get a scab on it, but so far nothing, I apply Bepanthen cream 4x a day, Bepanthen is a antiseptic cream used for rash on baby's bottoms, and tattooist recommend it for the aftercare of the tattoo, the pharmacist even knew what I was talking about.
Crickey has settled really well :biglaugh: and so far haven't had any problems!
