Hi- I have been just diagnosed with IC about a month ago. My dr. is wonderful, and he recommended i have the instillations and last saturday was my first one. Well- the pain afterwards was excruciating and I had to leave work in tears yesterday because I just could not function with the burning and constant bathroom trips. Well-tomorrow is supposed to be my second instillation but I don't want it, and I am asking did anyone find that the instillations made their IC worse?
I am really looking into alternative treatments. My Dr. recommended me to go to PT for PFD since my muscles are not relxed and I noticed with the spasms that my pelvic muscles seem to contract without me purposely doing so.
I am hoping for the better days to come and I just want a little advice to for tomorrow.
Thanks -Jazzy in New York City :)
PS: Has anyone tried accupunture? Or massage for IC?

I don't know...But I am off to the DR. in 10 minutes and thanks to this board and online research I decided against the inst. too much pain for what? As it has been said maybe it doesn't work for everyone and that includes me.

I've had four of six "rescue" instillations. So much for a rescue. My urethra is screaming for at least 12 hours after each one, and I get no relief from them.

Don't continue them Mrs. B... really, think about it... on this board posted elsewhere someone wrote about how they actually insert the cath. may be injuring the urethra itself. Whatever it was in my case, I went from manageable IC to nightmare IC. No thanks....I won't rule this procedure out all together but I will only do it again if the pain is worse. My Dr. prescribed me hydroxine, pretty good. It is the same as benadryl. I don't want to take any more medicines as of yet and will foray into the world of alternative medicines. I will become more aggressive with my yoga, and get some PT, massage, and accupuncture.
I see so many people on this board with like over 4 medicines, WOW! I just really want to fight this and I will use the hydrox. and use pyridium if it is really bad. Well- I have like a million thougts on the issue, but I want to use the bit least medicine and focus on my diet, and my spirit.
By the way, whenever I try to explain what I have to friends, co-workers, they give me a what are you talking about look, and then the formidable cure - cranberry... I tell them I can't drink cranberry for this condition, then another bizarre look. Sheesh, why isn't there more public knowledge?
Well, I better stop before I start like 5 more tangents... :ignore:

If your uro is giving you DMSO it does indeed hurt, but helps some people after a few sessions of it.
But if it's hurting you that much and you see no improvement in your symptoms you should trust your instinct and stop them
Good luck with your next treatment : )
