It's 3 days later after my DMSO nightmare and I am still having major problems! I woke up today in awful pain! Better now but it keeps coming on and off and I keep getting this urgency every 10 secs even if nothing comes out! I am scared out of my mind this is not gonna stop! What should I do?

Philly - I've never had DMSO, but from what I've read on the threads, some people have adverse reactions to it. I would call your uro immediately. Perhaps something like Pyridium might help or something else to calm things down for you. I'd call today because it's Friday. You don't want to suffer over the weekend or have to go to the ER. I hope you feel better.

Ok I have an emergency appointment set for Monday. I just have to get through the weekend. Pyridium? I will mention it.

Can they give you anything to help you over the weekend? You shouldn't have to suffer until Monday. If I call the nurse, she'll talk to the doc and usually prescribe something for me to get me by. Don't take no for an answer. Tell them how much pain you're in and what the symptoms are. Hope you feel better.

Philly,

Do you have a pharmacy near you - like CVS or Walmart/Walgreens? They make something called Uristat and/or Urised (its like Pyridium, but its OTC) - that way you can try it over the weekend until you get into the see doctor on Monday??

Hope you feel better soon :(

This is crazy...they can do a rescue treatment! It bites you have to wait until Monday. Can't they at least call you in a few pain relievers?

This does suck. The only thing I have is because my dad has some Vicdin from a shoulder problem so when needed he has been giving me 1 if the pain gets really bad. rescue treatment? Oh God the thought of having the Catheter in again sends chills down my spine! This was the worst mistake of my life trying DMSO.

oh I know, but they can at least put some lidocaine on it first to numb it so you dont feel the cath as much. This is horrible. I am so sorry!

Although last week he told me to stop taking it because it was not helping I still have a few Dtropain left. Think that could help?

This is terrible!! I am sorry they are treating you that way. Don't take advil!! They are crazy, it makes IC people flare. What a moron. I cant believe a doctor wouldnt even care enough to call something in to get you through the weekend.
I hope that things get figured out on Monday. It will go quickly!!

I think the ditropan, if it has helped you before, and some pyridium, would be addressing two different approaches and worth one try. I had DMSO, and I want to tell you I am quite certain your discomfort will fade! It did for me and it does for almost everybody, if not absolutely everybody. The first time I tried Uristat pyridium, it was during my 6 weeks of DMSO and I think it relieved my flare for a good while.

Best of luck Phillyman!

Sadly I just don't think I could go through it again way to scared. OK so I bought the Uristat it has helped a little I think I can make it till Monday. Thanks for the well wishes.

Just a thought on the Ditropan, If you have trouble with retention it may be wise to be careful with it, it just may make things worse. I not sure though everybody is different. Good luck
Andrea. :)

Ok woke up today and when I urinated for the first time I had pain again but now the pain is not that bad but this feeling of non stop urgency still is. I am doing my best to make it till monday. I am really spooked I mean this is most likely a bad reaction to the DMSO right? no way the cath could have damaged anything I hope

Sounds like your bladder hated this a lot and you should focus on relaxing your pelvic musscles....because the tenseness is making things worse. Heat alternating with cold and some moisture could help.
Pyridium is both presciption strength forms and non presciption...I have never been able to find Uristat or Urised but AZO standard is the same thing too.

I agree....if your retaining but feeling urgency without anything being there you should start very mild with antispasmodic....and if you do get one you may want a musscle relaxant too.
:grouphug: I don't blame you for not wanting a catheder in again...:grouphug:

I have been doing some work for Jill about surveys done on DMSO....quite a few people have said it made them worse some have said never had spasms until DMSO. Things will get better. :grouphug:
