View Full Version : Diangnosed on 3/10/06
I got diangnosed with IC on March 10th and my doctor started me on Elimron on March 15th - 4 times a day (2 caps in the morning and 2 at night). I started itching really bad 2 nights ago (on my feet, hands and arms). It got worse yesterday, so I called the doctor and he told me to take Bendyrl and get some Lanacane cream, he decreased my dose to 1 cap in the morning and 1 at night. Has anyone else had this problem? The itching is awful. He said most side effects go away after 2 weeks. I sure hope so. I am itching so bad today, but I can't take Bendryl at work, I will fall asleep. I have looked up what might cause itching and Sulfa drugs have never bothered me in the past. Thanks for your advice.
Thanks :)

dcbk - that's really interesting, because the past three days I've had itching all over my scalp and arms and legs. There's no hives, just itching. I've been on Elmiron for eight weeks and I didn't think it was that. I thought it was something I had eaten. I'm on one cap in the am and two caps in the pm. I take Benadryl in the pm and Claritin in the am anyway (instead of Atarax that I can't take) and it has helped some. Think I'll call my uro too. Elmiron isn't sulfa.

I have been on Elmiron for 3 weeks. I started 2 pills a day to let my body adjuts and now I'll do 3 then 4, b/c my dr also wants me to take it like you 2 and 2. My first side effects were some upset stomach and a horrible headache that went away when I took it out the capsule. Don't know if it was that my body adjust to it or the capsule.
I've been having some itching too, specially my nose, but I attribute it to the season, theres so much pollen all over the place, my car is covered in green!
I take one benadryl at night and one Zyrtec chewable during the day. Claritin like a sugar pill for me.
Rosesitty,
I mentioned sulfa, b/c my uro told me that if I have had problems with sulfa, I wouldn't be able to take Elimron.
Thanks for your relpy.
