Oh Emma I am sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I myself don't have an answer for you but I hope someone here can help you. I know there are a few that have stayed on medication while PG. I went off everything a couples months prior to conceiving. As for your Dr. I am sorry that you can't trust them, sounds like it is time to go Dr shopping, I did that for many years and I fianlly found a great family Dr (knows nothing about IC though) and I am still hoping to find a great Uro. Best of luck to you
I do not have any experience with this, but hope you find appropriate answers soon. I'll keep you in my prayers.

As a midwifery student that is soon to become a primary health care provider, if you were my client I would advise you to go off the vesicare and ESPECIALLY the amitrytrptiline. They are not safe for pregnancy. Also, I don't know what you are instilling, but heparin and DMSO are contraindicated. Instillations can cause UTIs and then you have to worry about taking antibiotics in pregnancy as well. I know this is hard to hear, but the first trimester is when the organogenesis period takes place. All the baby's internal organs are developing. It is also the time where most birth defects take place. Please be careful and think of the health of your child when taking medications. I know it is hard to just be in pain, but isn't it worth it to have a healthy baby?

i just found out i was pregnant and was taking elavil before i got pregnant. I guess I was taking it for about 14 days before I found out. Now I'm freaking out. I have read that it doesn't cause any deformities or problems when taken in the first trimester. Do you know anything about that? It takes forever to get to see a doctor up here so any info would be appreciated.

The baby is enclosed in a "yolk sac" during the first 2 weeks. It has not started its maternal placental circulation yet. In lay terms, its blood supply is not connected to yours at that time. So as long as you stopped the Elavil when you found out, you and the baby should be just fine!
Don't worry! But you can always ask your midwife or doctor what she/he thinks too.

massagedoula, I PMed you about this, but I'll ask it here too.
I just got a UTI last wednesday and took a couple days worth of Pyridium (Uritact is my particular kind) which I havent taken since Saturday, and I am still on my antibiotic (Macrobid). Besides that, I'm not on any meds at all as my IC has been doing very well lately. My question- Will the antiobiotic interfere with a home pregnancy test? I have a First Response test and it says that it shouldnt. Also, could these meds cause any harm to a fetus? DH and I are TTC, but I was in so much pain from the UTI that I really didnt think about it until it was too late.
Thanks for any info ladies.

Hi there
I am not a nurse or doctor so from that point of view i can not give any advide. But i was on antibiotics when i fell pregnant and i had a xray also i had a cyscosopy and was put to sleep (i didnt know i was pregnant) and i went on to have a healthy baby girl who was 6 last week. Hope that helps and puts your mind at rest. Good luck with TTC

The studies that have been done on Elavil are for higher doses that make the drug work as an antidepressant (over 100mg)- i am staying on Elavil (25mg) with the blessing of my doctor-and have spoken to quiet a few peiple who have done this and been fine. I am five weeks pregnant and have done quiet a bit of research on this -so would dissaggree that it is harmful (in low doses) - i think you need to ask your doctor about it. Elavil is such an old drug that there has been plenty of time to test it. I know this a contentious issue-i just that id let you know what i think.

My husband and I are talking about trying to get pregnant. He is worried about what a pregnancy will do to me with IC. I am only on Elmiron and macrodantin (as needed). My question is how long should I be off the Elmiron before getting pregnant? What about the macrodantin? My OBGYN reccommended getting off Elmiron a few weeks before but mentioned that with Elmiron I shouldnt have to worry too much since it is quickly out of my system and shouldnt effect a fetus. But if Im worried a couple of weeks should be ok. My uro said a month off Elmiron but I didnt ask about the macrodantin. Any advice on what I should do to plan for my pregnancy would be really appreciated. Ive been doing some research but nothing seems definate.
Thanks again!

I was also told that a couple of weeks for a wash out period was enough. This was from a pharmasist. I am 14 weeks pregnant but was only taking elavil when I found out, Elimiron hadn't been working for me and I quit the month before. I wish you luck!
