I don't know if this would be a rescue instillation but I had my 1st instill today. It was lidocaine, bicarb & saline. Has anyone had this before? How long do they last? I know we are all different. I am feeling uncomfortable now wondering if it is just from having the cath in? the uro gave me a rx for urelle. Any thoughts on this? Is it normal to get a 2 day supply of cipro or something after having been cathed? I asked her she said it was sterile so not to worry. thanks!

Charmed - usually a rescue instillation includes heparin (which is an antinflamatory agent) along with lidocaine, bicarb and saline. I've never rec'd an instill without the heparin. Anyone else? What the lidocaine does is just numb up your bladder for a short period of time. Lidocaine typically doesn't last that long. Typically there is some discomfort with the insertion of the catheter - more for some than for others. Urelle is an antiseptic, kind of for short term pain. It will turn your urine blue. I've been taking it for awhile, it's not as strong as Pyridium, but it can be taken longer. Since my flare started in November, I haven't noticed any help from the Urelle. Usually with a cystoscopy or cystoscopy and hydro they give antibiotics afterward. I haven't been given anything for an instill. There's always a risk of yeast infection with too much antibiotics. That said...I was on a 3 x per week instill plan for 3-4 weeks. After five instillations I got a raging UTI. No matter how "sterile" she says it is, there's always bacteria hanging around. Hope this helps!
