I am curious. Do any of you ladies here use the real short self cath to do instills? I am thinking you many not as it is so short to work with.

They gave me two lenghts to start with. I like the 12fr latex free flexible and is a littler shorter and easier to work with . Just perfect length.

My insurance paid for me to go out of network for the supplies . It is the solution that I will need to get so often........... new post.

I use the long catheters with a 12 or 14FR diameter for instills because it's easier to work with, as you say. If I am having urinary retention though, and only need to empty my bladder, I will use the short catheters (same diameter, 12 or 14FR).

For instillations, I used the long flexible catheters. The ones I have used are flared at the end so I could actually attach the syringe with the solution to the end of the catheter for the instill. I then removed the catheter before separating the syringe.

For just emptying the bladder, I used the little short ones --- about 6" long.
