had my first instill

I felt I was retaining again last couple days. Uro drained about 120 cc before the instill. So, I was sure that was what was causing my pain. (my pain is usually more controlled these days). After the instill, I was able to drive home 50 mintutes before voiding, and I felt my pain decreasing afterwards. I was very excited and hopeful that I was going to feel better after I felt some relief there. But after a few hours my pain came back. Now today (instill done yesturday), I'm having even more pain then before I went to my Uro's office. I took an Ultram but it's not even touching the pain. My belly's all upset to go along with it. Every time I go to the bathroom it hurts so much. No burn at all so I'm sure it's not a UTI. It's my normal pain flare but just much more intense.

I hope it's not actually from the instill, but just that maybe 1 isn't enough to calm my problem right now. I can't figure out why I'm starting to retain again. All the other times I retained was due to medications. But this time, I seems it's just me. I know 120cc isn't bad, but it sucks when your bladder capacity is only 200.

Well, just wanted to share my current misery. I'm a stress case right now. The LPN that works opposite of me at work is on vacation to the end of the month, and guess who's working all her days...me! So, I'll be there for about 3 weeks straight. Plus, I chose my 2nd day on to quit smoking...arhhh!! So, I was hoping my bladder would behave, but, of course not.

Ok, getting of subject with this vent. Just looking for support guys. Thanks a bunch!

Sorry you are having trouble. I started the instills recently, and I found that relief has been better after doing a few of them...so maybe once you get a couple more, you will have longer relief.

You may have gotten an UTI after the first installment. Did the office do a UTI test on you before they did the second treatment?
I would call the office/or Dr. on call sinces it the weekend now (Saturday When i seen this post.)
My uro when i was doing these installment at the office made sure his RN's gave me an anti after each installment for just in case reason. I was told if they drained more then a 100 cc., before an installment i was more likely to get a UTI. (this is before I kept getting them back to back as I do now.)
If the pain gets to bad and you just can't stand it any-more please call the Dr. on call then go on into the E.R so they can check your urine and get your pain under control.

Please don't give up on these treatments it takes time with any treatment to see an improvement.
it may also had been the caths. they where using. (if they where latex.) if you can get them to change to the latex free ones. It may help you a bit.
I would also ask for sample anti. after each treatment or an RX for a mild anti. to take after each one at home to ward off any unfriendly baterica that may get in during these installments.

Sorry your having trouble with them. I have been feeling more relief since my first one. I feel frequency after them for a hour or so but thats all.

Jen, hydroxizine made me retain water/urine really bad. How long have you been taking the Vistaril. Also, what kind of instill are you getting? DMSO? Heparin? Elmiron? I was supposed to be on a 3 x per week for 3-4 week heparin/lido/sodiumbi series. After the fifth instill, I got a raging UTI coupled with a yeast infection. Obviously we stopped so I could get things under control and then I need to rethink the instills. For 2 1/2 years I had them once a month, Since November I had them once a week, and then we were trying three x a week. This is the first UTI (and I never want another one!) Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for the replies ladies. Since the instill, I have been in a flare pretty much the whole week. But, the pain has died down recently. It's more of the pressure now, with spasm type pains that come and go. My IC belly is really bad too. Usually during the afternoon my belly is flat, but this whole week I look 5 months pregnant all day long.

Well, I'll get the second one tomorrow, and hopefully that one will help more. He tested me for a UTI on that day, but not yet after the instill. Maybe he'll do it again tomorrow.

I'm doing Dr. Whitmore's combo of Heparin, Marcaine, Hydrocortisone, and Sodium Bicarb.
I've been taking the Vistaril since I was diagnosed..Aug 2004. I don't think retention was ever a problem for me until I started those meds for bladder spasming. I don't know what caused it this time. I do feel it's starting to stop now. Although I do still get the "feeling" like I am not fully emptying, I think I probably am actually emptying better right now.
