Has anyone had problems with anal fissures along with IC (plus many other problems I won't go into now)? I was diagnosed with one last Sept. and after trying an assortment of creams, ointments, suppositories, etc., I was referred to a surgeon who first did a colonosopy (without any pain medication - just a sedative - terrible pain!!!) and then did the surgery. The first two weeks were the absolute worst with pain I have not experienced before although at times the IC pain especially with having a high grade UTI which I had at the time of the surgery has been constant and intense.
One other sufferer described having a BM with an anal fissure as passing a hot red ball through barbed wire. I also described it to the surgeon as passing a hot dagger and he said that is how he describes it (whether from personal experience or just training I am not sure).

I am coming up to three months since the surgery and am beginning to have a little bit of relief, only after starting acupuncture treatments last week. I will be going twice a week and am hopeful he will be able to help not only with the healing but with the severe pain I am still experiencing in the buttock, rectal, low back, leg and pelvic/bladder areas. This is my eleventh surgery in the pelvic/abdominal areas and I must say it has been the absolute worst.
The surgeon has told me along with my other complications it will probably take at least six or more months for my recovery.

I would be interested to hear from anyone else who has experienced problems with anal fissures as well as having IC. Thanks very much for any info and
sharing.

SINCERE THANKS,

Louise

Hi Louise,

I have IBS-C and have the fissures as well, they're awful arent they! Have your tried Proctocort cream? I cant use the inserts but I can use the cream (outside) the inserts burn too badly for me to keep them in. I've never heard of having surgery for them since they are pretty much "cracks" inside of you, but I suppose possibly cauterizing them would help? I also have hemroids..(boy oh boy, dont we divulge tons of personal information on here! :biglaugh:

Hope you are feeling better...

My conditions are:

Raynauds
IC
Graves Disease
Graves Eye Disease
Lupus
Migraines
IBS-C
Diverticulosis/itis
Arthritis
Fibromyalgia
Chronic Fatigue
Bi-Polar

I was diagnosed at 27 years old and am now 36.

Hi Louise, I've had problems with anal fissures many times over the years. I also think unfortunately, I may have recently developed another due to periodic constipation from pain meds. I have in fact had surgical repair of fissures (once a fistula) three times (3 separate times in my life)! I think they try the diet and cream route to try to get them to heal, if that doesn't work they will surgically repair them. Make sure you see a good proctologist. The first doc I went to did 2 surgeries, and they didn't work!! I quickly saw a another doc (a proctologist, NOT a general surgeon) who was finally able to complete the repair by cutting the sphincter muscle (which allowed the fissure to heal properly). I'm wondering now (also have my Uro wondering) if these problems led to PFD for me???

I have had anal fissures since the birth of my second child almost 4 years ago. He was born csection though. I opted not to do the surgery, I had a normal colonoscopy... I saw a great proctologist (sp?) and he recommended warm bath at least 3 times a day, if I do this for a few days, the fissure will be gone always. He also suggested lots of fiber to keep the stools soft. I only developed IC 8 months ago, so the fissure predate the IC. One pelvic floor therapist said fissures are indicative or anal sphincter spasms and this can be worked on internally. I just never could handle a finger up my you know where. I have found fiber, and baths to keep it pretty undercontrol.

Hi all,

I am having trouble with fissures too. Let me know what worked best for you. Also I have another "weird" question. Does anyones I.C. go into a flare after a bowel movement. I sometimes have that problem.

Thanks much for answering,

Shantaba:smile tee

I have a problem with constipation and IBS. My uro gonecologist told me I had so much going on down there he did not know where to start, so he did nothing, I am in the process of getting a woman doctor, I know I have cystecel and rectocel, he also told me my rectum is pertruding, I know it is like turned inside out. It is very painful to have a bowel movement, I use fleet suppositories and MOM and stool softners and laxstives. It gets so blocked up (this is disguisting) I put rubber gloves on and try to help push it out, I get big lumps down there and my rectum is turned inside out that nothing wants to come out normal. It is very painful I feel like I am ripping apart and the burning from my bladder is unreal. Sorry for the graphics, but that is the only way I know how to explain it.
Take care and good luck to all.

i had them for about 6 months after i had my daughter.....this was BEFORE IC thankfully i don't know if i could have handled having bathroom issues with BOTH holes!!!

i also had a c-section and i'm convinced i got them b/c the stupid resident had my taking an iron pill and a pre-natal after my c-section and we all know how childbirth slows things down downthere for a few days.....longer if you have a c-section!
