I just had a cysto in the dr.'s office. I fell like there is a hot pepper stuck in my urethra. I have never felt this burning so bad in my life I am going into the hosp. on 3/28 so she can put me under general anesthesia for another cysto. Did anyone ever fell this horrible burning feeling in the urethra only after a cysto. Thanks for all replys.

Christine - they put lidocaine in before inserting the equipment and I didn't have much problem at the time. However, that was before when my IC was very mild, things have progressed and I'm much worse. We were supposed to do another office cysto, but the uro postponed because I was having such a hard time. The one you're having on 3/28, which actually already has happened, how did it go by the way?, is where they do a cysto with hydro and fill your bladder up to see the glomerations and how much fluid your bladder will hold. From what I've read from the posts, some have a little discomfort for a few days and others longer. Let us know what they found and how you're doing.

I just got back from my new Dr. He tried to perform a cysto in his office but I couldnt do it. The pain and discomfort were just too much for me to handle. I was so scred before having it done that Im sure that didnt help any. I have had them done in the past but this was the first time I wasnt under anasthesia (sp?). He got the scope in, filled the bladder and about 2 seconds later I said over and over you have to stop I cant do this. I felt horrible and still do. It was a waste of time and now I have to schedule a hop visit to really get one done. However even after just a few minutes I am bleeding a lot when I pee and have passed several clots. I hate this and now Im scared to get the next cysto done.

Casey 193,
Make sure the Urologist knows that you were bleeding and passing clots. If this happened from an in office cysto I would assume you might have a problem with one in the hospital.
Just make sure he knows first.

Casey, besides for the bleeding, you sound like you had the exact same experience I had, the lidocaine burned me instead of numb me, the water burned me too. I feel for ya. Make sure you tell the uro to use the smallest cystoscope possible, pediatric if possible. (((Hugs)))

Is it possible to have conscious sedation using versed during the cyto ? I heard this can alleviate painful office procedures ? (ted)

When I had the procedure done in my Dr's office it was painful to pee for the rest of the day. It felt like I was trying to pee a razor blade. I hope you feel better!!!!!

It Is Uncomfortable To Say The Least, But It Always Helps Me. They Use Lidocaine To Numb Me And It Helps A Bit.

Thank you everyone. I think I really need to be sedated if I was ever to get it done again. My Dr now wants to do it in a hospital setting with me under. However what could be the reason for the cysto? I have already been diagnosed? I was bleeding and passing clots (not constantly) for days after the short try in the office. I dont think it is good to put my body through that again. I thought the purpose of the cysto was for a diagnoses?

Your doc may be wanting to do a cysto/hydro, thats where they overfill your bladder, let the liquid out, then re overfill, and look in w/a scope, thats how they can see if you have ulcers or cracks in the bladder. I didnt have to go through that. I only had the cysto under anest. because of the failed in office one by another uro which I would never see again. He wanted a urodynamics but I couldnt do that either, caths of any size cause me way too much pain, and thats why he didnt do the hydro, didnt think I could handle it afterwards. Just make sure you talk to your uro beforehand and make sure he uses the smallest scope possible, makes it a little more comfortable after. Check on getting a script for pyridium also, it can help w/the urethral burning and painful urination after.
