Causing retention?!

[COLOR=Pink]I had a cysto/hyro with DMSO Wed. I am still having problems with retention. I cathed myself last night for the first time. How long till i am able to go w/o straining or having to cath myself again in order to just urinate? I am sure that its the cause of alot of my pain right now.Has anyone else had this problem? I had the procedure because i havent been able to get the pain to stop the past few months. I am going to a new uro now. he told my husband that my bladder held 650 cc and that i may not have ic but chronic cystitis. i have been diagnosed w/ ic since 2002. I dont know how i feel about this. What do you think? my symptoms have been bladder pain and pain w/ urination. hope to hear from somebody soon! Thank you!

Sorry to read that you are retaining and hurting. Trust me ... I know how you feel!!!! :kissing: It is the most frustrating thing for me to know I have to go and can't.

I'm not sure about the two diagnosis ... maybe your doctor can explain better the difference between the two. My thought is that chronic cystitis means you always have an infection and my understanding is that IC is like having an infection without the infection. I guess better put CC = bacteria and IC = no bacteria .. but again this is only my guess.

My current (idiot) urologist has told me that when I retain I should cath myself every other time so that my bladder can learn to empty completely on its own. But there have also been occasions (too many to count) when I had foley catheter for a few days till my system calmed down and worked on its own.

Do you have a follow-up appointment with your doctor?
