Just wanted to see if anyone had the same response to an instill -- I feels okay as it's going in (with a little urethral pain), the med is soothing in fact, then I can usually hold it in for 4-5 hours. Only AFTER I void, do I start having some pain and discomfort to the bladder and urethra. It's this nuts or what? Thanks Ladies!

That's not an unusual reaction. However, it usually is recommended that you empty after an hour --- I think you should ask your doctor about the 4 to 5 hours.

Did they tell you to hold it in for 4-5 hours? I have never heard of anyone holding it in for that long. I agree with Donna, I think you should ask your doctor about that. Hope your bladder feels better soon.

They just told me to hold it in as long as I could - and that's 4-5 hours. The doc said it was ok, but the discomfort I get is AFTER the void. Thanks for your input!

My doctor also told me to hold it as long as I could, comfortably. If you hold it until it hurts that can actually cause you to flare. I have held it as long as 4-5 hours but, find I do best to void as soon as I feel pressure and not try to hold it when it's uncomfortable!
Also for me, I had a lot of pain after voiding at first because, I reacted to the preservatives in the instill meds. I seem to have a preservative allergy, now we use the preservative free meds and I have no after pain!
Hope that helps and your feeling better soon!

Then same thing happens to me. I feel great until I go to the bathroom. I started talking a pyridium an half hour before the instill and this helps alot.

my uro told me to hold my installments for twenty mins, but longer is better if I could handle it. At frist I couldn't twenty mins was the drawing point. I had to let it go, but over time I found I was able to hold it for much longer peroid of time, until finally I was able to hold it over night in some cases. (four to six hours tops for a normal night for myself.)
I found the installments to be a great relief for myself.
I have notice however when I was able to hold it for that long of a peroid that when I was first able to void in the mornings i had some burning, but i think it was to do with the urine billed up threw out the night. (the installment and urine.)
maybe if you let it out a bit sooner then the burning feeling may decrease a bit. If not maybe after you let it out either ICE or a Heating pad could help you. (which ever feels best to you.)
I do hope you all do well with what ever treatments your takeing at one point and time those was a God sent to me. I was in remission for 18 mths. I do hope to find remission again soon. I had it for another brief peroid of time, but it was only short lived due to an very bad infection that was found in my bladder that i had to take IV anti. to treat it.
best wishes, good health, and prayers sent to you all.

I found this website from the FDA. Know this a little off the subject but as I mentioned I can only tolerate preservative free meds. My doctor has been wanting me to add gentamicin to my instills, because I also have chronic infection. Finding it preservative free has been difficult! The I found this website:
http://www.fda.gov/cder/ndc/database/default.htm
This was a big concern since I may need IV antibiotics, and my pharmacists believe I have an actual preservative allergy. That could be very dangerous for me in an IV, so was able to find those preservative free too!
Through it you can search by active ingredient, NDC etc. This has enabled me to contact several companies and I think we've found some!
I don't know if it will help you but want to post if for anyone that may need it!
