My doctor gave me no other choice but start messing around with Botox which I cant afford. How long does it take to start working on the urgency and frequency? Does it work right away or does it take a few days to a few weeks? He used one vial on just my urethra b/c I have an neobladder that it would not work on anyway so he focused on where my urgency and freqyuerncy are the worst. When will I know that this does did not work and need to go back for another one? I know we are all different and please don't tell me to be patient because I am really suffering in a LOT of pain and can't even wait another 20 minutes, let alone an a few weeks. I never wanted this Botox to begin wth b/c of its experimental nature and it's cost. What scares me is that people are coming to him from all over the US b/c he is that good at this. So I have to give him at least one more try.

Thanks,

Kara

Hello Kara,

I just had it done for the eighth time Feb. 10th and it has always taken three to four weeks for me to really notice improvement but then I have four to six months of manageable symptoms before it begins to slowly wear off.

My uro also has patients from all over the country coming to him just for Botox. He did tell me it might take up to 30 days to really feel improvement, especially the first time. So I held on to that hope for the first month. I haven't had one day of pain at the level it was daily before Botox. Nearly two years ago I started having trigger point injections for pelvic floor dysfunction and vulvodynia and my gynecologist said last month that everything looked healthy for the first time since I started seeing her three years ago.

I hope this brings you some hope and I hope you start to feel improvement soon.

I felt improvement of botox in about a month too, I had retention from it for a while, and I had to self cath for about 6 months I think, but after I was able to go to the bathroom on my own, i went into remission for quite a while, about 2 years to be exact, botox gave me my life back, I am thinking about doing it again, with a lesser unit so I dont have retention again. Hang in there, and I hope it works for you.
