Adele, here...aka Allyoopa. I have just read a thread from Kara 29 and it has broken my heart. Her problem being, needing treatment that is not affordable and the added horrible feeling of having to borrow money to fulfill this need. I realize how lucky we are in Canada to have such wonderful medicare but that doesn't help those of you who are not covered for certain procedures where you live. I don't know if this has ever been suggested or not but, if not please let me be the first to do so.

We have over 11,000 IC Proactive Members and if each of us sent just $1.00 each month to an account in Jill's trust, so there would always be money set asside for those IC Sister's/Brother's that may not be able to afford their much needed treatment. The withdrawl could be made anonomously, again through Jill so there would be no need of embarassment or Thanks. It would give me great pride to know that I could help one of my fellow IC Sisters/Brothers in a big way for less than the price of a cup of coffee each month. Botox, itself is not covered in Canada either but the procedure is not deemed elective therefore we pay only for the botox which brings the price down considerably. I would like to know how feesable this is? I myself will do anything to help organize this or just donate my 'procedure gift' each month. What do you think??

IC A CURE

Many Thanks
Adele

I think this is a wonderful idea. I would also be willing to contribute to such a fund. Thank you for thinking of this and posting this idea. I hope that others will want to participate as well. Hopefully, if enough people post interest and support of this idea, maybe Jill would be willing to consider this.

Allyoopa~ What a thoughtful suggestion on your part! Count me in on the donation side if Jill agrees it is feasible. Perhaps we, as individuals, can successfully support those who are suffering in the hands of "the system". And, yes, Kara's situation springs to mind...

I think that's a great idea. The meds and instills are SO expensive, but they're things we need and many are going into major debt trying to even find a way to function in their every day life. Luckily I have ok (well, mediocre) insurance and a good job, but I can see where it is a huge burden for so many. The only problem is... who regulates, how do you determine need, who controls the funding - it sounds like a foundation with grants may be necessary and I don't know how practical that is. Don't mean to throw a wrench into the idea, there's just lots to think about when you do something like this.

I'm not really qualified to answer but I assume if it is done through a foundation then it is legal. I'm sure an accountant and treasurer would need to be elected. It would probably be alot to work out at the beginning but oh so worth it. And I'm sure there are many of us that would be willing to help in any way we can. Its just a way to be Proactive, its not different than helping those in Katrina, everyone has a right to donate their money to any organization to which they choose. Mine is IC patients who need treatment! It wouldn't be that we all send an individual dollar every month, we just write a cheque for $12.00 for the year! PLEASE HELP, Rosesitty,Tunia and Ihurttoo!!!
Thanks Adele
