Kara~
First, and most importantly, I wish you well with your treatment and your recovery. You've been through so much - hopefully this will be an answer for you, at least temporarily.

I am familiar with your doctor, as I have also been treated by Dr. F for the past 5 years. From the beginning, he pushed me to try the Interstim, but the research I did convinced me that it would not alleviate my unremitting excruciating pain (my primary symptom). Once I rejected the Interstim, he seemed to lose interest in my case. Over two years ago he brought up the subject of botox with regard to my treatment. I was estatic and looking forward to its promised relief. He kept telling me how wonderful it was and that we'd explore it further during my next appointment, and then that would arrive and he'd put me off again to the "next" appointment. This went on for over a year and a half. He had many excuses: that it wasn't working as well for others as he had hoped; that the hospital would allow him to perform only so many during a given period; that he didn't have the time on his schedule to perform the procedure; etc., etc.

In the meantime, we discovered that the combo of the Fentanyl Patch and Oxycodone seemed to control a good deal of my pain. We utilized this combination for about 6 months, but, when I phoned for the monthly renewal of my prescriptions, I was told that he would no longer write the scripts for it. Never mind that it is dangerous for one to be taken off these medications abruptly - that they should be tapered off, I was cut off immediately without fore-warning. His reason? Well, he could only write narcotic scripts for a brief period and I had reached my limit. If this is the case, then it should have been divulged in the beginning, and why begin them in the first place? Now he has me backed down to Vicodin, which is simply not effective, and I'm pretty much back where I started. Frankly, I've lost a great deal of faith in Dr. F.

Yes, I know he's supposed to be the best in the area; Yes, I've heard of his wonderful reputation. But once you use your own judgment and refuse a treatment HE wants to do (the Interstim, in my case), he just writes you off as a viable patient. But where do I go now if he's supposed to be the best?

I hope your treatment by Dr. F brings you the relief you so deserve. Please do not be dismayed by my negativity about him - he must be doing something right for someone. I just don't happen to be on that list. Geez, perhaps I should have put this in the "Just Venting" section!!!

You are in my thoughts and prayers...
