I was having severe pains in my right side last week, so I finally went to the doctor. The doctor pushed on the area where I was having the pain and it was aweful! She immediately sent me to the emergency room because she suspected appedicitis. At the hospital, they ran blood work and did a CT scan and everything came up normal. At that point, they basically said that they didn't know what was wrong with me and sent me home, still in pain. On monday I went to a gynocologist, because that was the doctor that the ER doc referred me to, and he was suprisingly helpful, although he still doesn't know exactly what it is. He said he thought it was either IBS or a smouldering appendix. He gave me a rx laxative to see if that helped me feel better. I felt better all day today, but the pains still come and go, but sometimes they are still pretty bad. Has anyone else had IBS mistaken for appendicitis? I guess it still could be appendicitis, but it is not likely since my white blood cell count is normal. Any advice would be appreciated! :loco:

I have been in your shoes. I have been to the ER a couple times for pain in my right side at the point where you would put your hand on your hip and about where the fingers are. They also pointed to appendicitis, but all the tests came back negative. They also ruled out gallstones becasue I don't have a gallbladder anymore.
The docs suspected I had a spastic colon and gave me some liquid medicine for it. I later went though lots of tests and finally a colonoscopy and have the beginning stages of colotis. Right now, my intestines are just inflamed and have some diverticuli, so I have to be careful. I also have non-constipation IBS.
May I suggest to you to talk to your doctor about pain control for now. Also, there is an IBS friendly diet. I would suggest that you restrict your diet for now and see if it helps any. If possible, stay away from any known triggers ie. smoking, coffee, stress (haha... if we could all do that). If a heating pad works, do that too. Have you tried an anti-gas pill to see if that helps?
But, just know that I totally know where you are coming from and am in the middle of all sorts of flares myself.

I've had IBS with constipation all my life but finally was admitted to hospital in 2001.

I found a wonderfull GI in NJ who put me on Elavil, protonix, Zelnorm..asap the elavil helped with the pain and the Protonix helped with the stomach acid

Zelnorm didnt help me at all.. I still get flares of constipation as soon as that happens my IC flares .

Good Luck
