(yes, this is a very late post)

I had my cystoscopy and hydrodistention in 11/04 and at that time, I had been a consistant smoker for about 4 years at about 1/2-3/4 packs a day. The day before the procedure I did not smoke and waited until the day afterwards until I lit up. When I went outside and took the first drag, I vomited all over my porch steps. I did not try again for another day and when I did, the same thing happened. I have not had a cigarette since that day.
However, my husband still smokes and when I am around him or other friends who light up, I always feel those same pangs of nausea coming on. They are especially bad in say a car or other enclosed area.
I told this to my doctor and he has never heard a report about it either from the company of any medications used or from any other patient. Has anyone else ever had this happen? I am half concerned what is going to happen after I get my next treatment.

I never heard of that being a side effect. I quit after my colonoscopy, but I had to go all through the withdrawal symptoms & had to make a big effort to do it. Glad you quit, but I don't know if it was the cysto/hydro or maybe just a side effect of the anestesia. Hugs, Kathi

I would have blamed the anestesia if it wasn't a day and then the next day. Its also been over a year and the reaction is still the same, including pain in my bladder, intestines, getting light headed, and urge to vomit (if around too much, say 2 ppl smoking at the same time).
I really have no clue, but I was not thinking of quitting at that time, but I cannot smoke again. It was the ultimate cold turkey, I can tell you that. It was just a curious probing question.

It may be that your body is giving you a message. My suggestion would be to make your house a "no smoking" area, as well as the car. I'm fortunate in that where we live, many, if not most, public places don't allow smoking.
