What could be causing this dizziness? (See meds in siggy)

I also have a corresponding headache around my eyes/forehead. It doesn't seem to be ENT related. Anyone else have this? I'm scared my husband is going to have to pick me off the floor soon. I've had it all day and I have to stand up very slowly.

HELP! :help:

I have had several bouts with vertigo over the years. What I do is stay horizontal with my eyes closed until it passes. Sometimes it takes several hours. I don't know what causes me to have it unless it is an inner ear problem.

You could be coming down with a cold or flu, or you might be having a reaction to one of your meds. Can you call your doctor this weekend about your condition? If not, go to ER if you feel like you need to be seen before you can talk with your doctor.

I hope this passes quickly... :kissing:

If you have pain around your eyes and cheekbones it could be a sinus infection, they often cause dizziness. Also the suggestion that you check your meds for side effects is a good one.
I started having dizzy spells and went to a specialist who diagnosed it as Benign positional vertigo or I got dizzy in certain positions. He said there was no cure but a study done at U of Michigan said small crystals form in the ear canal and can cause this. The treatment is light pounding around the ear--no kidding thats what they said.
Talk about rocks in your head? Anyway I did this and also went to a chiropracter who said my neck was all out of whack (I had constant stiff neck), and guess what?
I got over it in about four weeks. Rocks in the head an all!

Thanks, if I'm not better tomorrow, I'll call my doctor. I was just baking cookies and just bending over to put them in the oven made me dizzy again. I'll try taking a benedryl tonight to see if it may be sinus related, but it just seems way too intense to be sinuses.

Hey!

It sounds like you have a migraine. Headache around the eyes....and dizziness are classic symptoms of a migraine. You could try Excedrine Migraine over the counter medication. If that doesn't help your doctor or the ER can give you an injection that should give you almost instant relief. If the dizziness and headache is very sever I would skip the excedrine and go straight to the ER.

I don't think it's a migraine...not that severe...mostly dizzyness. It's like a head rush that subsides after a few minutes, but returns when I stand up or something again.

Hi Hollypop,
Since you fairly recently increased your Elavil, it's possible that it could be causing orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure when you stand up or sit up) and dizziness. Can you get someone to check your pressure?

Make sure to let the doctor know what's going on soon so he can adjust meds if he needs to and/or get to the root of your symptoms. May be more than one thing going on causing the different symptoms.

Be really careful so you don't fall and injure yourself!! Liz

Thanks, Liz. I actually reduced my Elavil to 25 mg tonight to see if that helps...but if my bladder starts hurting, I'm taking the other one!

Good .... may give you a clue to what's going on. Strange with this disease that we are sometimes "damned if we do, damned if we don't" and no decision seems to be the right one!!

Hope you feel better soon ... this can be so frightening! Liz

I hear ya...I'm also going to the store in the morning, and I'll use the blood pressure thingy at the pharmacy. We usually do it for fun...yes, we are demented. :biglaugh:

Holly!!!!!

I missed this thread this weekend! Are you okay now? Was it the Elavil increase? Did you see a doc?

Hugs!

I'm waiting on my doctor's office to call me back now. I'm a lot better, though...it still scares me no matter what.

I bet!!

I hope you aren't having an adverse reaction to the Elavil, it has been making you feel so much better!!!

I see my doc today in a few hours. I have to break it to him that I can't handle the side effects of the Elavil. After falling down the stairs.....that was the last straw.

*sigh*

Where is that magic wand to wave over us????? lol

Hi! This is my first post. I have been having dizziness as well (and have had for over a year off and on), but I also have some nausea and almost passed out today during a workout. Have you learned anything new?

The person who stated that it could be a blood pressure thing, might be on to something. When I became dizzy and nauseaous this morning, the staff at the YMCA checked my blood pressure and is was 80 over 20.

I have an appointment tomorrow to check it out. Please let me know if you learn of any correlation.

Thanks

I checked my blood pressure at the pharmacy and my GYN checked it too, but nothing. I've been doing much better, but I had one dizzy spell tonight.

I feel honored that you chose my thread for your first post! Welcome!

I hope you get your BP resolved...that sounds scary. I don't know what the numbers mean, but I'm in the normal range on the machine at Krogers.

It sounds like your GYN wasn't too concerned about your dizziness? Is that the doctor that's treating your IC? Did they check you for other possible causes for your dizzy spells?

I had my first bout of vertigo around age 40 and it has made regular visits ever since. Most have been mild episodes, though a few were real wall bouncing, drag-out doozies! I have noticed that there are quite a few of us here at ICN who must deal with this too. My GP who treats me for my dizziness tells me vertigo is not that uncommon. It sucks! I remember thinking there was something seriously wrong with me, -like I'd had a stroke or something!

Shannon, I'm glad you are seeing your doctor tomorrow. Blood pressure that low just isn't okay.

hollipop,

I have vertigo and get dizzy especially when I lay my head down. My doctor says as soon as I get dizzy when laying down to immediately sit straight up. I thought it was crazy but it actually does help. I took antivert for awhile but it made me groggy all the time. The sit up excercises has helped more than anything. Take it slow when getting up from a sit down position I have literally been thrown back down from dizziness.

Take care,

Thanks to all who responded to my post yesterday! I saw my doctor this morning and he thinks I was dehydrated when I experienced the dizziness and nausea. Its possible that the attarax I am taking as part of my IC regimine led to the dehydration.

Hi Shannon,
Glad you got "checked out". At least you can rule out some problems this way and you won't have to worry!!

I have had problems with dizziness and headaches by the eyes myself now for about 10 yrs. I have had many tests and that came out negative and have concluded it being caused by TMJ. It sounds like mine is different cause it's not spells. It's more of a constant thing but just thought I would throw the idea out there. Ann
