Does anyone have any thoughts they can share whether or not to have the DMSO treatments vs. the Cysto w/ Hydro done? I went to my uro yesterday and he suggested me trying either of the two. Not sure which one to go with. I have not had either of them as of yet. I was diagnosed from a PST. I have been in flare for a couple of weeks and am taking Elmiron, Elavil and Hydroxizine. Any suggestions??

I have had BOTH. My opinion is I would never do a DMSO again. my husband and I felt it made me worse. The smell is horrible and the thought of putting such a strong chemical in my bladder maddens me. My first URO told to there was NO other choice! I found a new one and found out about Elmiron, yeah..he didn't even tell me about Elmiron

I love the hydro's...they work for me and so does my new URO :biglaugh:

Look at ICNDonna...she's the "hydro queen" she's had something like 30 done!

Remember, everyone is different. There are people who post here who will say they love the DMSO's, and had no luck with the hydro's...again, it's an individual thing.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

When I was first DX, the first treatment I had was the DMSO, that helped, (even went into remission for a few years). After I had my hyster., we tried it again, but it didn't help but when I asked my doctor what else is there he kept saying nothing!. When he retired, the doc that took his placed offered the hydros, they were and are a lifesaver!! I have them every 6-8 months. Between the hydros and the elmiron with some pain meds on a as needed bases that is pretty much all I take.

My URO told me the dmso treatment wont work until you have the cystro/hydro first. Then for some reason it works better.
I have had both. The dmso does help me. You do have ordor just for a couple days. You do get a little worse berfor better. its take time.

Thanks for the information. I am going to go for the hydro in a few weeks. It really helps to get different opinions.
