How often do you guys have PFT appointments. Mine are only once every other week. They just use the probe and it only takes about 20 minutes. I do not feel like it is doing anything at all. Any advice? Also, they tell me to do kegals in the meantime, and i was under the impression that those are bad for IC? Just checking.

When I did pt for PFD, my appointments were arranged only after initial examination. The pt classified my pfd as moderate\severe, if memory serves me correctly, it was something like 1x\wk for several weeks (maybe 3 months). Then we decreased the amount of visits based on my improvement - I didn't go longer than 5 months total. Each appt. was at least an hour long, there were some warm up excercies, lessons on new excercies to do at home and then internal\external massage. My pt was able to reproduce most of what I though was ic pain when she'd find knotted pelvic muscles, it was these she releived through the massage. I noticed a difference right after first visit, some of the knots were too painful and those she worked out a little each time.
I was also given excercises to do at home but they never included kegal - my pt also didn't think they were good for IC. The excercises were focused mainly on stregthening and lengthening the pelvic muscle.
Hope this helps.

I went once a week for an hour per session.
Due to me having had surgery for prolapse I was/am encouraged to do Kegels daily by the PT, urologist, and gynecologist.
good luck

I went to my first appt with the PT for PFD this week. It lasted about an hour and she told me that my pelvic floor was a mess. I apparently am never completely relaxed and my muscles are actually too toned and strong, just very uncoordinated and tense. She told me I have a lot of internal trigger points, but she didn't massage them really the first visit because she said I would be in enough pain just from her identifying them. She thinks that most of my pelvic pain is the PFD, not the IC. I definitely had a major pain increase the last few days. I go back next week, but it sounds like it will only be for a half hour. She has not introduced the TENS yet. She did give me a sheet of 2 different exercises to do daily. They are kegels in a sense, but it's more of a hold and relax thing to try and improve my coordination and ability to relax the muscles completely. The good news was she told me that with a lot of work, we may be able to get me to the point of no pelvic pain. Feel free to ask any other questions you might have. Good luck with your therapy!

I go once a week for my pt, i think it depends on the person, and how well you progress. My pt has me doing kegels, they seem to really help me, but i also have a dropped bladder.
