Hi, I would love to hear from people who are taking cymbalta...for pain management. I am curious as to how long it takes to get relief.

My pain management doctor started me on this last month, but I was unable to tolerate it. He said once you get to optimal dosing, you should start to feel relief. I had to take mine with Zofran due to horrendous, uncontrollable vomiting.

I am at 60 mgs of Cymbalta and it helps my VV more then anything. I have been on it about a year. I also use Elavil for VV and IC. I wish you much luck with the Cymbalta.

Hi Anam 42, I just started Cymbalta three days ago. My GP suggesting trying it and after what I read hear on the boards I decided to try it. So far so good for me. From what I read it sounds like it takes a good three to four weeks before it really gets in you system and begins working. One thing I know is that I sure sleep alot better after even after the first dose. My pain level is better but I just had a change in a couple of other medications that I know where causing me pain (blood pressure). Hope it works for you. How long have you been taking it?

I take it with my other meds. I take it b/c it is an anti-depressant as well it is suppossed to help with neuropathic pain. I have been on it for over a year, and it has seemed to help. I hope it works well for you.

Does anyone have trouble with weight gain on cymbalta? I hope not, I took elavil for a while and it sure makes you gain weight.

I have had no problem with weight gain on Cymbalta. I, like many of you, also gained weight on Elavil, as well as many other meds. However, Cymbalta has actually even helped me shed a few pounds. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with how well you will do on this one. Good luck! Hope it works as well for you as it has for me! Hugs, Amy

amy, I see you also take veslcare, is it helping your frequency and urgency. How long did it take to help you. How long did the cymbalta take to work? I have been on them for 12 days. So far I sleep alittle better if only my urethra would stop burning.

HI! The Cymbalta took about 2 weeks to get some effect and about 6-8 weeks to get the full effect. The Vesicare took about 10 days to get some effect and 6 weeks to get the full effect. It does help me with the freq and urg. I hope they work for you!

Hi, I have am on week 5 of Cymbalta now and I really have started to notice the difference in the last couple of days. Of course I had a hydro done two weeks ago Monday, so my symptoms were worse for a couple of weeks just from the procedure. I have also cut back on the Elavil to 25mg (from 50mg), so far so good :) I can actually say I feel better all over, emotionally as well, but I am sure that is because my pain is not as bad. You know how it is when you are in severe pain, it is very depressing!

Hope everyone else is doing as well as I am, at the moment at least :)

HI, big fig, you take both elavil and cymbala. Do you take them both for pain or for depression.

Yes I take both. I was taking 50mg of Elavil at night, but after increasing the Cymbalta to 60mg at night, I decreased the Elavil to 25mg. So far so good. The Cymbalta is for depression. The Elavil might be as well, not sure, someone else here probably knows. But, I honestly do feel much better with the combo's and mg's I'm on now. Oh, and they are both for pain.

Cymbalta has really helped my anxiety. My neuro put me on it in January. It doesn't help my IC thought.
