View Full Version : cystoscopy?
I've got to have one of these in a few months (long waiting list!), just wondered if anyone can explain to me what will happen? I know they put a camera through my urethra into my bladder but I was also told something would be going in my backside too (eww), anyone know what this could be and what it's for? Thanks *blush*

A cystoscopy is the insertion of an instrument into the bladder through the urethra to view the inside of the bladder. It does not involve instruments in any other body orifice. Unless they are doing other testing, nothing would be inserted in your rectum.
You can read about cystoscopy in the Patient Handbook (link at the top of this page).

Skye-
The test where they put a tube up your rectum is the urodynamics test. I had an unpleasant experience with this test. Never having had anything up my rectum before I think it was a big shock (I nearly passed out). The tube came out numerous times during the test and had to be re-inserted.
Most people don't have a problem with this test, however. I was on of the ones who did.

PlainJane, I had the same problem with it you did. I will never do that test again. They couldn't get the machine to work right so they kept taking it out and putting it in. (THis was also my first expericene with somethere going in there). Also, that was the first time I had the cath done. It hurt so bad the nurse redid 3 times and by then I started crying. Head nurse came in and she re-did it. Same pain but then because of the IC I was to have pain. No lido then. Doc came in wondering where I was (was suppose to go to cysto after that) and he told them they had done it wrong. Guess it just depends on who the person doing it is. The cysto went fine.
